What happens if i dont show up for my ship date at meps?

The recruiter will be mad as hell, but there is nothing he/she can do about it. They may tell you they can do something but it is a bluff.

You do not belong to the military until you swear in at meps right before shipping out to boot camp.

nothing is going to happen to you, dont belive all of the hype you arent really in the military until you swear in that day you ship and then actually leave then you are stuck in your contract and could end up in jail but before then you cant really get in trouble but you better believe they are going to tell you that because most likely you are scared about it and wanna run but let me tell you this if you act like a p*ssy now you are going to regret it later.. you should give it a try before you go and puss out

I'm amazed at how many people answered that question and didn't have the slightest clue of the real truth. The truth is if you swore in the first time and didn't go in, absolutely nothing happens. The government doesn't keep a record of it in any way. In fact i did it and later decided to join and nobody said a word. Be real sure you want to go before you go, if you decide later you really want to go then go. Never let anyone tell you what to do with your life.

They won't bother to sue you for breach of contract, but if you are on DEP, you will be in a world of hurt. It all comes down to swearing in. It doesn't matter what happens up to that point, you can always get out of it. If you have raised your right hand and swore to support and defend the constitution, then they will arrest you for missing movement. Don't let this happen.

have you been sworn-in??? if so, you could be arrested. if not, you'll probably just get a really nasty call from your recruiter.

Depends. I didn't actually commit until the day I left. That,, however, was a looong time ago and I don't know the modern procedures. If you don't actually commit until that day, then all you do is burn bridges with the entire federal government. If you have already committed, then eventually they will come and arrest you, process you and then give you a less-than-honorable discharge that will haunt you for the rest of your life.

well if you dont show up you are considered AWOL.. and you could get into serious trouble.. my husband just left for basic. why did you swear in if your thinking of not going?

Can be tried for disobeying a direct order, missing a troop movement, desertion. All are court martial offenses. Don't skip it. Worst case scenario is death penalty because of the desertion. Best case is jail time and dishonorable discharge.

They'll come get you. But you aren't actually fully signed with the military until you sign at bootcamp. Before then...you're still free to do as you please.

There is some conjecture that the military is in negotiation with the government of Viet Nam to reopen the Long Bin jail for deserters.
