At present, there is not a draft. You must register with the Selective Service when you are 18 but that is all. The Selective Service is not a draft, just a registration for one. It has not been used since it's inception. Even with Gulf War I, the draft was not instituted and is very unlikely to be at anytime in the near future. There were draft dodgers during Viet Nam but that was more than 30 years ago. If caught some of them did end up in prison. |

It is a shame we don't have a draft. If the pain of the obscene Iraq war was spread around to all families in America instead of just the low income households who see the military as a lifestyle...if we all had a stake in this war through a draft, the war would be over in a week.
If there is a draft and one decides they don't want to cooperate the army will help them out by sending 2 MP's to help the draftee into the jeep. |

Assuming that there were an active draft, and you refused to go you would be arrested.
Unless you run to Canada... but hey they just sent a deserter back for trial so maybe that won't even work. |

Well, going back to the 1960's, You'll have to Avoid this by Leaving the Country as a Draft Dodger (Many fled to Canada then)......and or Imprisonment! |

well for one the draft wont come back i highly doubt it
and if your drafted and refuse to go you got two choices
one run away and spend the rest of your life in canada
or two GO TO JAIL |

If the draft is reinstated and you are called up and refuse to go you are subject to arrest, fine and going to jail. Other than that you life would go on as usual. |
