What happens when a recruit catches a cold or flu in boot camp?

The go and are seen by a doctor. If the issue is minor and the soldier is able to continue training he/she continues training with the unit.

If the soldier cannot continue training then he/she will be 'held over' until the next cycle reaches that phase of training and the soldier then continues on.

You will go get check by a medic given the military cure all "motrin" and return to duty. If you are that sick you will transfer to a medical hold unit and be recycled.

You go on sick call, get some Robotussin or if your really sick with the flu and contagious go to the hospital if you miss too much training you must start the training cycle over :(

He might be sent to the hospital. No, not because he needs hospital care, but because that way he would be kept away
from the other trainees.
If he misses a certain amount of training he might be "sent back" to a platoon which is behind his in training , so he can make up the training he missed.
It happens all the time.

They go to Sick Call. The member is evaluated by a medic, given medication if needed, and issued a 'chit'. A 'chit' is a basically a doctors note, letting the instructors know what the member can and cannot do. Like, if he/she needs bed rest, or can't run, or needs crutches. At Navy RTC, the winter is FULL of colds and flus, so they have 'cold packs' for those that can handle the routines of boot camp on top of a cold. Cold packs are just over the counter cold meds. If its TOO bad, they will be delayed in training. We understand the people get sick, but we can also see through lies. We call it 'malingering'. No one likes a fake, so if it gets like that, we find other reasons the member might not make it through boot camp. All in all, being sick will not cause you any grief, one way or another.

They all get it. When I was there all 120 of us were sick for like the first month then it tapered off. Most of us just dealt with it on our own and some who actually had it real bad and the few that just didnt want to be there went to medical and got medicine and bed rest.

Well when I caught Pneumonia during boot camp at Fort Dix,New Jersey,I was put in the hospital till I got better,but for just a common cold they are sent to what is known as sick call n if the doctor determines that they caught still train they r either given medication to help them with the cold or given a few days off from training until they feel better but it is all the doctors decision that is how it works.

The DI will tuck him in bed and bring him hot tea. Than read him/her a bedtime story.

In reality you live with you it. You get so sick you go medical they treat you and send you back.

Everyone gets sick at basic training, it's just part of the experience. All those people form all over the country being brought together with their own unique bugs and immune systems, it's a disaster waiting to happen. If the recruit is smart they will just suffer in silence, going to sick call is not exactly encouraged at basic. If you do go to sick call and end up missing training, you get to start over again with the next cycle depending on how far along you are.

With me it was Strep, so I was given a shot of penicillin and sent back to duty.

Several things happen here. One is the illness. They will take care of you, whether is a shot of penicillin of 800 mg of moltran. A sick soldier does the Army no good, so they will do what is needed to make you better.

The other thing is the training. The training is vital to making sure that you are well trained. If you miss enough training, yes you will be sent back to another training platoon. This is not a punishement, but rather to ensure that you get the training that is needed.

you will be told to drink water. and if they think it's really bad, they'll give you motrin (the military's cure for everything). And if THAT doesn't do it, they'll probably just tell you you're constipated and you need to drink more water. lol

you go to medical, you fill out form, they take your temperature, your blood pressure, then you get motrin 800mg and halls. promise you'll be good to go.
