The most devastating war of all time was WW2. Total dead were about 70 million people. Injuries were about 200 million. Property damage was enormous with entire cities being flattened. In comparison, all other wars were just a tussle. The only other war that comes close is WW1, but the greatest killer there was the flu that spread around the world. |

WW1 was bad in the totals killed in a short period of time.
Somme=60,000 casualties in less than two hours and that wasn't counting the German casualties. |

Definitely WW1.men lived and died in the trenches, or running forward straight into german machine guns. When it rained the trenches filled with water, and troops had to live in it. One of the most common medical conditions was known as "Trench Foot" because of standing in water for days on end. They also sufferd from rat bites, and in winter intense cold and discomfort. Britain lost about one and a half million troops, and about 250,000 went home with lost limbs and severe shell shock from days of heavy bombardment. The front line troops could only get a change of clothing when they were relieved which was about every 3 weeks. |
