What if World War 3 happened today...?

What if the US was involved in WW3? What sacrifices would the common people make?
Additional Details
I'm saying this because it's a homework assignment...

The draft would have to be reimplemented, some rationing might occur and our economy might tank for the immediate struggle. As for the sacrifices people would have to make is their lattes in the morning, sending their sons and daughters to war, paying higher taxes, etc. Pray to god it never happens, for we may be in it already.

Liberals wouldn't make many sacrifices and would instead try to sue people. Conservatives would most likely be willing to sacrifice quite a bit to save this country, and the world if it was an actual World War.

Well, we would switch to guns instead of butter. Most of us would be in uniform. A lot of sacrifices would happen.

We are in World War Three, just no mass Battles yet. The people we are fighting are cowards and won't fight face to face

#1twilightfan
we would probably win
but we would probably have to donate a lot of money and food and a lot of prayers, i would go fight for my country

3njoi.
who wouldn't die for this country. i know would die defending it against all enemies. im asian and enlisted in the us navy. its just so sad that the first guy who answered would abandon this great land. if you don't honor and respect this land then you are free to leave.

I do not know what weapons would be fought in WW3 but in WW4 men will fight with sticks and stones.

Well alot of things,
First off imports from China would end immediately.
The people in the USA would mostly forget about being liberals because liberals wouldn't make it.
There would be rationing of certain items Gasoline for one. There would be campaigns to turn in scrap metal.
Probably hundreds of other little things that many Liberals would scream about it being their rights to do or have, but oh well.

If WWIII were to break out I would serve in the Navy.

BlueTyphoid
1) Nukes
-----we're all dead
2) If it was truly WWIII, then the people would probably hate the enemy like in WWII, and therefore the sacrifices would probably be similar to in WWII
(google it)
lol

World war 3 already started man, it just hasn't been titled. Look at all thats involved in the Middle East, kinda seems like its gonna start to evolve big time huh? Iran with nuclear technology, a never ending war in Iraq, other nations joining the fight, whats next?

really you need to like a history again, it always repeats itself, nothings ever new just different

i would warn all people and tell my crush i love him and if he still lives then if he would go out with me. :D

The next world war may very well be won without a shot being fired. The next guy to rule the world will be the guy with the most powerful computer, for with that he's only a step away from turning it into a military weapon. Let's face it, with more and more of our military equipment being computer-dependent, the guy who is a couple of steps ahead of you digitally will simply render it all useless. He'll be the one in control of it not you. Also, society as a whole will be computer-dependent as well--everything we do will need computerization. He'll own you there as well. He will have a tremendous weapon in his controlling information. You might look at China on this one--they have a lot more minds they can put on a digital problem so smart money may be on them. At that point we play by their rules. Can you spell Confuscious?

It would be the quickest of the 3 World Wars.

The similarity to WW II would nearly have to be duplicated.

I'm sure a military conscription would be enacted, ALTHOUGH, deployment of troops may quite different and limited to some extent in comparison.

All out war would be conducted with more hi tech weapons.

I could forsee a stepped up airforce and navy.
THe US may suffer bombings like no one can imagine.
9/11 would be fireworks in comparison.

Sacrifices may be more pronounced than during WW II.

We depend much more on imports now than we did back then. If some or most of our global suppliers should align with our enemies, God forbid, we would be cut off whether the products were military related or civilian.

Think of shoes, coffee, clothing, steel, machinery, auto, parts, all those things that are now manufactured out of the country.
Even if not cut off, shipping would be a hazard.

The US would have to gear up for manufacturing that in some cases does not even exist here now.

Military boots as an example, aside from civilian shoes.
Leather went to military boots for the most part in WWII. They were rationed for civilians. As I remember 3-4 pairs per year, and scarce.
China now makes 80% of the world's shoes. Our own shoe manufacturers are gone for the most part.

Imported oil, if it was available would be scarce and more expensive than now. Many tankers would no doubt be sunk, if those oil producing countries even sold to us.
WW II, civilians received 5 gal of gas per week.
Sugar was rationed and scarce. Bananas were scarce.
Meat rationed and scarce.
NO autos, appliances, and parts would be manufactured.

All this would affect electrical supplies. WW II, the majority of people used coal stoves and furnaces. No AC.
WE manufactured our own steel. Hell, we import more than we produce.

We had a rail system then for transporting people. Ran on coal.

Mobilization would be carried out, but I think it would take more time than WWII. Taxes would have to be increased drastically as we may not be able to borrow from the world bank or China. Of course, WW II, there wasn't much on which to spend money. Lots went into savings/war bonds.

I don't know what the new generation would do without all that they have, and told/forced to sacrifice. We didn't have all these things back then.

I could go on and on.

Ex Air Force/Navy
We (USA) would lose. The USA cannot even beat a rag tag group of men in the Middle East who use basic weapons and wear tennis shoes. The common people in the states would be more interested in American Idol "or" Singer spears or Paris to know what was going on in the world. A few poor people would join to fight in WW three but the average young person would stay away from the war. It would be nothing like WW two. Let's hope there will not be a WW three. We'd be in trouble.

bi-polar-itical
i think that only if we are directly attacked, without any provocation, would this country, truly come together as a nation. everyone would do what was asked of them. now, that said, if we jump into some crazy, ideological battle that no thinking man could win much less a bunch of goons, then it would all fall to pieces. visions of vietnam would dance across the headlines. we have to be smart.

the same as in WWII what ever need was give up

Umm...that would be kind of implausible simply due to the nature of our increasingly global economy and the interdependencies it creates.

If conflict were to truly escalate to the point of WW3, then the role of nuclear arms would certainly gain some controversy. Though it is a diplomatic power, the sheer destructive power and our vast stockpiles certainly go beyond the conventional use as a deterrent.

I kinda like the road warrior way, as the intro quote to the movie goes, "and men began to feed upon man".

liberals would cease to exist and wed all be drafted and tons of conservation campagns would flare up and taxes would increase, millions would die and economies would b in shambles

we would all be toast

if and when ww3 happens we will all die because of nuclear weapons that would wipe out the world KABOOM...the end

john_galt0
World War Three ended in 1991 and the US won. We beat the Soviet Union and won the Cold War in which thousands died on both sides, battles were fought in Korea, Vietnam, Nicaragua, Angola, Cambodia, Laos, Greece, El Salvador, Germany, among others.

jackpi21
Civilians at home would be forced to work in chain gangs to fill in for the ones that were shipped off to war. Only the most infirm would have any excuse to be exempt from the work gangs! It's going to be a very radically different world people! Most will flee and be shot on sight, with no questions asked or expected! I hope everyone of you enjoy what's coming your way!

If? No son we are gonna be in WW3 like it or not. I belive we may actually be starting it. We got war in Iraq and Afghanistan. People are talking about war in Iran and tensions have always been high with North Korea. There's a border war in south america we might get involved in. The guy we're after is in Pakistan. Now Russia is starting to rebuild it's military and is increasingly defiant of the U.S.

We all need to make sacrifices today to be ready for the big one, cuz it's coming like it or not.

No more gas guzzling SUVs I think it's only acceptable to drive vehicles that get 30mpg or more.

Don't leave your lights on it takes 11 barrels of oil to keep one 75 watt bulb lit for an entire year.

If you get cold don't crank the thermostat, put on a sweater and or cover with a blanket. Or cuddle with that significant other ( who said sacrificing can't be fun. )

Overall conserve what you can and don't waste anything if you can help it. Also the young men need to be ready to answer the call of that draft when it's called.
