I love the misperceptions and beliefs on here.

First, as stated by many, it depends on what you really want. People already in, unless, like myself, they work with all branches, will recommend their own.

Myth 1: Army is easiest to get into, Air Force hardest. To enlist in the Army, without a limited category open, you must score a 50 on the ASVAB and have a HS Diploma or better (no GEDs). The Air Force is a 40, HS Diploma also. The Navy a 35, HS Diploma also. Marines, a 31, GED okay. Granted, there are times the branches change the minimum, however these are the minimums without exceptions.

Myth 2: Air Force pays better. All branches pay teh same based on your rank. The Army promotes fastest, followed by the Marines, Navy then the Air Force. thus, in reality, the Air Force pays the least. It takes 28 months to make E-3 in the Air Force, the Army allows you to make E-5 in 18 months. Pig pay difference. That much money is quality of life.

Myth 3: The Navy (or Air Force) is safer. The Air force has the highest casualty percentage in Iraq for the number of personnel rotated through. The Navy second, Marines third, Army has the lowest percent. The Air Force and Navy have been conducting ground operations for the past few moths, and they are taking a beating. They even modified their Basic Training to resemble the Army's due to their new missions.

Myth 4: The Branches are all the same at enlistment:

The Army guarantees EVERYONE a job they choose, everyone else has open contracts, the Air Force and Marines guarantee the fewest jobs. High tech Air Force and a hotel desk clerk. They have the best Education programs, best bonuses and most flexible enlistment periods.

My personal choice based on what I have experienced working with everyone, the Army is the best choice.

All of the United States of America armed forces rock. But if I had to be in the military I would want to be in Special Forces like Delta Force, Navy SEALS or the Rangers. I would also like to be a spy for the CIA or NSA. GOD bless our troops.

I prefer Air Force, that is what my Husband is, really it is totally up to you, go to each of the recruiters offices and hear what they have to say, find out what jobs they have that offer bonuses that you would be interested in.
A couple of pointers: 1. Don't go "open general" pick a career field or get a guarenteed job, (and yes it can happen)
2. if you are young (ie under 23ish) bring along your dad or other influencial male in your life, they will be able to cut thru the bs that the recruiter will give you if you are a youngun' and they will give you less bs b/c of an older person being there.
3. ask ask ask, the more questions you have answers to going into it the better off you'll be.
4. talk to people who are not recruiters who are in the branch of service and job that you want...go to military.com and visit their forums talk to people who actually are in and aren't recruiters, you are more likely to get the real deal from them.
5. if you have college credits, take a transcript and have them record it, you might get additional rank for an associates etc...

To have a reasonably good chance of not seeing any action the hands down choice would be the Navy. For action adventure and a chance to go to other countries and kill people the Marines are the way to go.

if i were going to go in, then i would choose army or air force.

AF, come on folks we did that all out of order! Everybody promotes about the same speed, except for the Marines are super slow cause there's so few of them (just supply & demand). Little faster maybe for war zone service. Other services are better for job skills after or benefits/signing bonuses, or how well they take care of you in-service, or educational opportunities. It all depends on what each individual is looking for, and what they really need in spite of what they think they're looking for (meaning after you grow up).

This is based on opinion and experience. Generally,the army is easy to join. Then the marines are tougher. The navy is good.The air force is harder to join but are treated the best even on the enlisted level. If you join, keep in mind your likelihood of being deployed to the war areas is extremely high and you are government property. Their needs come first and all recruiters embellish and lie to some extent. Get it in writing!! Good luck.
