It is more like non-stop aerobic exercise. You are not allowed to ever walk anywhere but inside. The minute you go out the door, you must run to where you are going.

Long time ago...

Get up at 5 am. Clean up barracks, head, make beds, get dressed in uniform of the day (usually fatigues)
Formation outside, run (jog) 1 1/2 mile.
Breakfast. The only way to get to mess hall is by using monkey bars (hands usually bleeding the first three weeks)
Back to barracks, inspection by platoon sargent.
Formation outside.
1 hour calisthenics
1 hour training (crawling or marching or whatever)
Usually at least one long march in the morning
Noon lunch
Short rest after lunch and back out for training.
Close arm drill
Bayonet training
Draw weapon and clean it
Get some instruction on some aspect of military life (for example who to salute, when to wear a cap, etc etc
Every week or so, test on some aspect of training (physical or mental)
Around 8pm, get ready for lights out
Sleep like a rock

It's not really that bad. Unless of course you're thinking about the elite forces, yeah that's murder.

You have to get up real early and go running in the rain.
Non stop pain until you go to bed for weeks until it's over.
You have to be real clean.

It's more than just physical exercise. You have a lot of things you have to learn about how things are done in a certain way. Also, they put you through stressful situations to help you deal with them better and to seperate the "Can-do's" from the Can't-do's."

I've heard boot camp described as "sorting men." It's true.

Its not hard at all.
It can be if you have an I dont have to take crap from nobody attitude.
If your mother and father taught you right, the discipline factor wont be tough at all.
Do what your told, they explain everytghing you need to do before hand, so just execute!!

If youre in shape, youll have no problem with the PT.
The hardest thing is going to be being away from mommy daddy and your girlfriend.

Other than that, you stay focused on what youre doing by joining the army.
Be it to support your family, be it to earn your future, or be it to support the ideals of this great country of ours.
Just remind yourself why youre doing it everyday.
That will be enough to keep you focused to get through it all.

My salute to you
good luck!

All the way!

it depends on which branch of the military you are going into. i went into the air force. it wasn't hard. you do an hour or so of pt (physical training) and the rest of the day is classes. learning customs and courtesies and history of the air force. then you have details, which is just cleaning around the dorms or having to help in the chow hall. that was almost five years ago it has changed some since i went through. in all honesty it is not hard it is mostly mental.

The Army is easier than ever before, less strict, they have stress cards now.

Boot camp is VERY early mornings followed by VERY long days. Mix in some ******* you don't know screaming at you at the top of their lungs while you do push-ups until your arms falls off. Watch Full Metal Jacket. The first 45 minutes is a good representation of boot camp.

My husband just went through it and said it was easy. He is in the army. He had to wake up at 4:30 every morning and in bed every night at 9:00. You do march alot, but its not like the movies. They cant hit you and they really dont yell that much. They dont get in your face unless you give them reason. You do get some free time. Sunday is all yours and you get to call your family on that day but only for 10 minutes. Hitting is NOT tolerable. You hit someone, you go to jail! Its not as hard as it sounds. The real hard part is being away from loved ones. GOOD LUCK!

Well, yes you will be spending most of your days running and while your running you might be singing some odd songs along with it and also doing a good deal of push ups and getting up before sunrise.

Think of it this way when you finish boot camp you'll be in allot better shape and have a good job with good health care and also a chance to go places you never thought you would never see.

Not exactly like you say above...You have to go through it to really know what it's all about. There is lots of exercise and push ups but it's much more than that.

When you go through it, you will feel like a construction job is the easiest job around but once you make it, you will feel so damn good and proud of yourself!

I went through Army boot camp in 1976 and it changed me as a person. Before boot camp, I was headed down the wrong road and The Army aimed me in the right direction. If not for The Army, I would either be in prison or dead!

It wasn't easy but it was well worth it!

It depends ENTIRELY on what branch of the military you enter. The US Marine Corps still has a 13 week boot camp that has managed to maintain its renouned toughness, despite pressure to become more "recruit friendly" as other branches of the military have done. For those posters who went through basic training in the 70's.. it's a completely different ball game now. My brother was Army, went to Viet Nam in 73... His conversations with my son about modern boot camp (My son's a US Marine!!) are hilarious... They both cracked up about the Army issuing "Stress Cards" to their basic trainees...

There are many books about boot camp (USMC) and basic training (other branches of the military)... Check out your local library and see what you think.

Bootcamp is just like a house but the occupants are trained physically and mentally to become soldiers. The exercises are not non-stop but only in the morning and the rest of the day is spent on lessons, drills, firearms handling and other aspects of military training.
