I think Wayne MOSTLY hit the nail on the head. I would however disagree that Iran now only has a little twig. They could still be quite troublesome, or even worse. |

A foothole in the middle east.
Hussain made everyone in the world know he had weapons of mass destruction, he said so in prison. His enemy was Iran. |

After Gulf 1 the plan was to keep him contained. After 9/11 that strategy was reviewed and changed.
I think the whole thing has to do with Iran. They fund the bulk of the trouble makers. Saddam's trivial brush with Al Qaeda had nothing to do with it.
With all the Security Council rumbling about "serious consequence" it was just a matter of time. He was the easy target and right next to the real problem.
There is no way Iran is going to be invaded without cause.
So now we have NATO to the east and 150,000 to the west.
Iran now speaks loudly as they really do not have a big stick...they have a twig.
Cannot prove any of it though and if I am right it sure would not have been put to the world like that. |

Here's an ingle good reason with exra detail.
The dictator that was in charge of Iraq blatantly ignored 14+ UN terms of surrender from Desert Storm.
Now what? |

took saddam out before sanctions were dropped and the oil started to flow. this would have caused a a drop in oil prices. bad for exxon. bad for saudis. |

Because he gave the finger to numerous UN sanctions against him and did what he wanted.
Because for all his talk about getting rid of WMD after the first Gulf War and claiming he didn't produce any more some of our troops were hit with road side bombs containing sarin gas at the beginning of the war. So, he lied one or the other about it. Either the stuff was left overs that violated sanctions against him having the stuff he claimed he got rid of years earlier...or he actually did have WMD's before we invaded and moved or hid them.
Because he harbored terrorists. We took out a large training camp in the beginning of the war up in Northern Iraq run by Ansar al-Islam, a franchise of Al Qaeda. Saddam knew they were there and didn't care.
Because we did liberate a country and most Iraqi's are happy to be rid of him...although you won't hear that in most liberal reporting...you'll have to just ask the troops how they were greeted and treated. |

To set up a few more permanent military bases in the middle East. It's our MO: defeat your country and set up shop. We're already building at least two bases there. |

Instead of acting out on leads about terrorists coming into our county to quickly learning how to fly really big airplanes and receiving info about upcoming terrorist attacks, Georgie Bush was embarrassed that the press got pictures of him in kindergarten learning to read on 9/11. He had to keep face and decided invading Iraq would really teach 'um. |

There are zero good reasons. Real people know that, but the propagandists think they can make it appear that there is still support.
Don't buy it. |

Because our country was attacked on September 11th 2001, and over 3,000 Americans were murdered by terrorists. |
