What is the application process for the air force like?

i am planning to go see a recruiter later today but how does it work? do i just go there and say "i wanna enlist," and then i sign my name and its done and im off to basic in like a month? or is there like a screening process, or something like that. how long does it take before i am actually in?

First, the recruiter will talk to you. Then, if you are qualified to join..you meet the height weight requirements, you have a high school diploma, and are joining for the right reasons you will most likely get scheduled to take the Asvab test. This is to see what jobs you will most likely succeed at. After that, they will tell you the results, and you may get a guaranteed job. You will have to go to MEPS where you will get shots, sometimes a job, and do all of your physical tests..making sure you are healthy. If anything is wrong with you, you won't be able to join. After that they recruiter will probably put you on a list...sometimes there is a wait..most of the time. You will leave for basic training any time your specific job comes up. My husband left after about 3 weeks. I know some people who it takes up to 5 to 6 months. During the time while you are waiting to leave for basic you are in a DEP program. The recruiter will give you a list of workouts you can start doing to get your self in the best shape you can before leaving, and you will have to meet with your recruiter and a group once a week I believe.

That's about it..I could be missing something, but that's pretty much how the process goes! Good luck!

See the recruiter.
-
Ask every question you can.
-
Take the tests.
-
Get the physical.
-
Get the security investigation.
-
Choose AFSCs (enlisted jobs)

You just get signed up to enlist at the recruiter's office. They will give you a sample test there to see if you qualify. If you do they will set up an appointment at M.E.P.S. (pretty much a lot of "hurry up and wait" there). This is where you will enlist after all of the testing. It takes more than 1 trip to get it all finished. The whole process took me close to 2 months before I left for boot camp.
