im looking for a boot that can keep out water, but at the same time is light like a running shoe. any ideas of brands and types??

Okay some of those guys suggested converse - bad choice in heat - works well in winter. Running good support
5.11 is for cops who wear boots for 8 hours a day...
Bates is a phenomenal boot - I've worn it for 6 years, if your in water you dont want the jungle, the combat boot is light...
NOW this is important - do not judge bates on its first week of wear...
the boot is like fine leather (its not fine leather) it needs break in time, but I assure once It has been broken in you will never wear another boot again... I hate that first week my self, but I walk on clouds in these bates, I wore them 4 years in the Corps, and I wear them as a contractor in Iraq now... I wear them for 12 - 18 hours a day. They breathe they are light and comfortable... break in was a week.
Dont fall for name brand fancy zip up crap - everybody comes crawlin back to the Bates.
A place you can buy them real cheap is any Exchange on any Post - if you have base rights you can get them in a clothing shop for about 80-120$ depending on model and strenght. They also have a line of different colors (same support and comfort), you can get the boot with saftey features or steal toe and sacrafice no comfort for either...

I have used Bellevilles, specifically the 390DES during combat operations and in rigorous training. When I was in Sapper School, I put on a brand new pair of Bellevilles and got zero blisters after completing the patrolling phase. Bellevilles combine lightweight, with extreme durability. Every military post has little shops that will resole the standard Vibram soles for a reasonable price, contributing to great longevity.
The Bellevilles feel very much like running shoes and have provided excellent support while carrying loads of 100 lbs on patrol with a sprained ankle.
The Vibram soles provide excellent traction in mountains, sand or forest, and as I mentioned above, are easily resoled.
As far as waterproofing goes, the waterproofing is only good up to the top of the boot, and then it will hold water for a while. I would recommend getting a pair of the non-water proof jungles or desert boots, because they will dry out much more quickly and are more breathable.
This is a great U.S. made boot. There may be others that are just as good, but for sure, there is none better. Around here, I can get them for around $100. Certainly worth every penny. |

go to Galls.com, i recomend the 5.11 tatical series, or the Converse boot, both are really good boots. cant wear with your acu, but, law enforcement, fair game |
