ok so i have a kid on the way and i am trying to finish school yet have money in my pocket so i decided to join the national guard reserves which will give me a 15 grand bonus and with the gi bill and mgi kicker since im still in college giving me 700 a month whle im still in school.
i scored a 83 out of a possible 99 on the asvab so my recruiter tells me i can get into any field i want. my major in college is engineering by the way but engineers in the national guard often get subbed in as combat engineers whos jobs are to disarm land mines and lay cement.
I am trying to find a mos that will get me started in a good career when i get out of the military that also wont get me sent to afghanistan. so i decided to look into intelligence for the top security clearence. i have a choice between.

so i was wondering if anyone knew what would be the best field for me to go into and why all input is appreciated

Your MOS list is ancient history. Intel is 35 series and some MOS have been deleted or changed. You need to talk to a recruiter. UNless there is an MI unit near your house, all you're going to have are a few intel analyst slots in your unit's S-2 section.
You are going to Afghanistan or Iraq. The end. Don't join if you can't hack it.
Unless you want to be a defense contractor the rest of your life, the thing that's really going to take care of your civilian side is your Engineering degree. The military experience is more like icing on the cake.

I would probably pick something that would be useful when you get out of the military...like maybe something medical? Wish I could be of better help. |

Why not helicopter pilot?
It doesn't matter about your MOS, you will probably have to go to Afghanistan anyway. So why not make it exciting?
Being a helicopter pilot, you'll be a Warrant Officer. If you decide not to make a career out of it, you can always find an opportunity flying for Healthnet, utility companies, or even for a corporation. |

yea im in the same boat so i need some advice too! im joining the navy in june and i got a 92 on the asvab....but i have no clue wut i want to do! im very social and friendly and i hate science stuff - but my math scores were apperantly off the charts. and my english scores. now my technological and mechanical scores....lets not get into those. but id greatly appreciate some advice! thanks! ^_^ |
