What is the best way to prepare before signing up to join the Air Force?

It's the same as you would do for any other branch.

1. Make sure you are in good physical shape

2. If you are still in high school join Rotc.

3. Learn basic drill "marching"

4. Learn military time, AF Ranks, Creed, Ethos, General Orders, AF Song

5. Study for the Asvab it will help.

6. Keep a positive attitude it'll be over soon enough.

It has details on a lot all enlisted jobs.
Find out what your interested in doing.
talk to a recruiter and schedule a day to go take the asvab.
I would recommend going to amazon.com and looking for asvab study guide books (master the asvab and asvab for dummies are 2 really good one's) study those, then take the test.
Once you figure out your scores, look back at that website (has pretty accurate minimum scores) and see if you qualify score wise.
Then have a few more talks with your recruiter and talk about jobs and such.
Then schedule a day to go down to meps (Have your jobs of interest in mind, and if you qualify put them down) . The physical part will also determine if you qualify for certain jobs or not so its not just all asvab scores. If you scored high enough make sure you get a guaranteed job. If not make sure you have a good list of potential jobs so when you ship out to BMT you have a lot of possible options to choose (depending on what is available at the time)
Then your good to go! :)

running 3 miles in under 25min, be able to do 40 push ups with good form, 40 situps without stoping.

Be mentally confident;

Prepare yourself for you MOS, research for

Read up and understand what BMT will be like, 8.5 weeks.

Know exaclty what you want to get out of the military, and how it will help you transition back into a civil life.

I'm assuming you mean before you ship to basic. Run, push-ups, and sit-ups. Do 'em at least 4/5 days a week.

If you have not signed up at all the best way to prepare is to do a lot of research on the internet and find out as much as you can about jobs so you can get one you like. Study for the ASVAB so you qualify for all the jobs you want.

Get a map of Lackland AFB and find the chow hall. They'll probably tell you were is it, but just in case.
