What is the difference between all of the different infantry divisions.?

The Army has three different types of Brigade Combat Teams. Heavy Brigade Combat Teams have combined arms battalions of tanks and bradleys. Stryker Brigade Combat Teams have most of the vehicles built as variants on the Stryker platform. Infantry Brigade Combat Teams are built around regular light Infantry. Some Infantry BCTs are on jump status, such as the ones in the 82nd Airborne Division. The Infantry BCTs in the 101st Airborne Division are not on jump status, but their Division is equiped with two Aviation Brigades to facillitate a greater Air Assault Airborne capability with their division. The 25th Infantry division has a brigade on jump status, a Stryker brigade (I think) and two regular Infantry BCTs. There will be some variation from division to division, however most divisions have only one type of BCT. Each BCT has different capabilities. Infantry is more rapidly deployable, but has lighter weapons and is not well equipped to engage a heavy force without extensive defensive preparation. The Strkyer Brigades are between Infantry and Heavy brigades in terms of firepower capability and speed of deployability. Heavy brigades have the most firepower and maneuver capability, but also take a much longer time to deploy to move the heavy equipment.

Name, units, and mission. Also, some are heavy while others are light. You can get a more specific non-classified layout on various web pages but they won't get too specific for security reasons.

The basic job function is the same. Infantry is Infantry, however some units include tanks, helicopters for air assault, Airplanes for Airborne. Some use Strikers, others are light infantry and do a lot of walking. The Army and has all of these divisions to respond accordingly to what's called for when fighting a war. When the bullets start to fly though, it's all the same. The difference is the vehicles and equipment that are used to get you to war.
