Whose army? |

In most western countries 18 is the approved age to join or be drafted. In some African countries (and in Cambodia and El Salvador in the recent past) if you can carry a rifle you can be a soldier even if you are only 10.
If you are a pacifist, no age gives a right to kill. But life is not peaceful and has never been. If you are in the UK joining the armed forces is now voluntary, I believe, so the "child" is the one who decides, once he's 18. |

as soon as they are old enough to hold a gun....... |

I think we should first decide at what age a child stops being a child, the age of "children" seems to have risen regularly from fourteen to eighteen .If teenagers aged thirteen plus are old enough to attack , threaten, and even kill then perhaps they should no longer be regarded as "children" |

Gugliamo, your an idiot since you have nothing valuable to say. The American army is 17 with a high school diploma or GED. They do lower their asvab score the lowest though so nearly anyone can get back in.
But in the middle east and such, they are taking children and sending them to anti american schools where they learn to hate and kill americans. There are pictures of kids no older than 9 taking hostages and murdering, not killing.
As for legal age, who is to say? Who decides if its okay for a 40 year old or a 4 year old to kill? No one, because killing is illegal at any age |

The Army turned a "bling" eye?
A child cannot join the military without parental permission until he or she is 18. So they don't prey on "children."
One is also required to have a high school diploma or a GED to get into the military. So they don't prey on dummies either.
They don't ask about ones income. But they do check credit and if one has bad credit, they don't take them. So they don't prey on the poor either.
Now, please explain the "bling" eye? I believe you are the one with the "bling" eye. You can't see anything but what you want to see.
That's ok. You can think anything you want. But why try to spread your "blingness"? |

In the United States, our ALL VOLUNTEER servicemen and women must be 18, or can enlist at age 17, with parental consent. They must be 18 by the time they graduate from basic training.
But that doesn't really answer your question, now, does it? For, in reality, many of the insurgent suicide bombers and many of those who killed so many of our young men in Fallujah and Ramadi, and in Al Anbar Province were much younger than 18, or were developmentally delayed. So... if they have the barest of skillsets, they can be deadly at a very young age. |

In the UK one can join the Army as a boy entrant at the age of 16 - but you can't go on operational duty until you are 18.
ps if this is such a big issue for you - why have you got a Clint Eastwood avatar?
PS - I'm a numpty heh! Well Clint Eastwood's characters were generally violent (a point that he now openly regrets) and as for complaining about UK based answers - you are on the UK site. So why don't you take your troubled mind elsewhere? |

for a child to kill? 17 with parnets signature...18 on there own.
or do you mean to be killed by the army?
think it depends upon whether they are a threat....not like the army runs arounding aiming for everyone 10 and up |

If u are refering to going into the military, then the age limit is 18, or 17 with parents permission. There is no justification, plenty of people join the military and never kill anyone, some are doctors, hospital workers, ect.......
If someone is aming to kill me, then it won't matter what age they are! |

Only 18 year old adults can go on active service in the British Army, Navy or Airforce.
They all swear an oath to God, Queen and Country to serve wherever is needed.
I served in the RAF as an aerial photographer for 12 years, and as one person has said, never got involved in fighting, although I could have been ordered to if necessary.
You can't compare that with hooliganism on the street, in the forces you defend the country, and serve overseas when the situation warrants it. |

Who exactly are we talking about with the term "army?"
The UK?
The US?
Sudan?
Darfur?
Explanation of who or what army would help dictate an answer. |

There are no children in the Army. You have to be an adult to join the ALL volunteer force. |
