Their is no sniper corps, and the minimum standard is pass
every event to qualify, its pass or fail just like life or death
they keep scores but they are meaningless, there are a million ways to fail and 100% is the standard you can't almost hit a target you can't almost avoid detection you are afforded an opportunity to retest on any event but only once fail and your going home. you must pass field craft, Marksmanship, stalking, physical fitness, target detection , range estimation, patrolling, Leadership, Maintenance, Range cards/terrain sketch's, Stress fire, Pistol qualification, Communication, hand and arm signals,and the list goes on. Must get 70% on apft must be 11B 11M 19D or CMF 18 (special forces) must pass Psychological evaluation must have letter of recommendation from commander,Must have qualified expert with M16/M4. cannot have record of disciplinary actions. |

Sniper corps? Here is the usual career path for snipers in the army:
1. Enlisted as 11B - Infantry Rifleman
2. Performed duties as a rifleman for 2-3 years and are recognized by their chain of command as an expert infantryman.
3. Applied to and was selected for their battalion's Scout Sniper platoon. Completed Ranger school.
4. Served as a scout for 1-2 years; selected to attend Sniper School.
5, Passed Sniper school and detailed as a spotter/assistant gunner on a sniper team
Most snipers are Corporals or Sergeants with 3-6 years in an 21 - 25 years old. |
