What is the minimum national guard commitment?
Find answers to your legal question.

What is the minimum national guard commitment?

If you go into AIT 31B military police what is the minimum amount of time you can serve, and still get all the benefits such as the GI Bill. also does your time in training count towards your total commitment. like if you commit for two or three years does the time in training count towards that?
and i know you cant say for sure, but how much time are guard members actually deployed/away from home during their minimum commitment?

how much money do guard members get a month?

i just dont want to call a recruiter and find out its not for me then be nagged for the next five years to join.

Here's a general rule for you. All military contracts are 8 years. Now, you may commit to being 6 years active, 2 IRreserve or 3 years reserve, 1 year active, and 4 years IRreserve, but the military will be able to activate or reactivate you at any point during that eight year period.

Time in training, including basic training, AIT, etc, all counts towards your time in service.

The minimum amount for guard members to be away from home is one weekend a month for drill and two weeks a year for training. It's likely that you'll spend more. You'll also earn a pro-rated portion of base pay based on how long you're in service each month. For instance an E-1 who goes to training for his two weeks will earn $653.10 for that two week period.

Edit: Trust me, every contract ever written or signed for anyone to get into any branch of the armed services has been an eight year contract. I don't care how many years you think you're committing to. It's eight years. It may only take six to get your full GI Bill (and that doesn't take effect until 1 August, 2009) but your contract will have you tethered to the military for eight years. Period.

When you sign your contract at MEPS, you're considered in the DEP and it does not count towards your time in service. The time your TIS starts is the day you get on the plane to go to basic.

And, for the record, your pay is based on the hourly rate for your rank, that's correct. And, for an E-1 doing his two weeks of training a year, it's going to total $653.10 for that two weeks. Thank you very much Brandy, but don't insult other users who have a better grasp on the subject than you. It just makes you seem selfish.

Your initial contract will be for 8 years. You can serve 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 years active(2 days a month 2 weeks a year). The actual time served will depend upon the deployment cycle. A deployment will be about 6 months of a train up and then 12 months with your boots on the ground.

Your pay will vary depending on your rank. But you can go on line and find a reserve pay schedule and it will be the same.

But I do understand your wanting to avoid talking to a recruiter, they can be a little bit persistent.

the people below dont know what their talking about! six years get you the gi bill and student loan repayment and tuition assistance! time served to your contract happens the day you swear in at meps and ship to basic! national guard reserve and active are different components so when looking at pay grades for each look according to the component becasue they are different for your one weekend a month its based on like 12 hours pay for your paygrade and depends on the nation guard state because its state level not federal such as reserve or active components! 6 months to 16 month tours based on the unit your attached too.right now the national guard is paying of up too 50,000 dollars in federal student loans plus extra money in tution assistance you really need to talk to a recuriter from each component.go to an office and just talk!
