What is this charge called?

My husband got a fine from a park ranger when he was 20-21 for possession of paraphernalia and payed a fine of $250. He payed the fine, but doesn't know if this will be on his record and what this would be called. He is trying to join the army and took his ASVAB and passed now his recruiter had to go to the police station/court house to pull up his record do see if there is anything on there because we are not sure. My husband hs a GED, so most likely if he had a charge he will not be able to get in. Does anyone know what this would be called and will it be on his record?

IN most states is called just that - Possession of paraphernalia
Yes, it will show up, as he paid the fine he admitted guilt.

It is possible that it will be on his record as "possession of drug paraphernalia" and it is also possible it might be listed as a misdemeanor as he only paid a small fine.

ok heres how it gets looked at. your hubby has a GED, has a charge and it definately will show up because he paid the fine. right now the army is only taking persons with GED's that can score above a 50 on the ASVAB, additionally they MUST NOT need any level moral waiver.

UNLESS he additionally has at least 15 Semester Hours of college, then he can get the waiver.

Problem is, " almost the same scenario i'm in" because he paid the fine , it is an admision of guilt. The G.E.D 15 college credit hour and a waiver should do the trick. But because enlistment rates are the highest they have been in 6 years, no more waivers are being acepted. In October I believe they will start acepting the waivers, because that is the begining of the new fiscal year for the military.

Its federal. The military will find it. It won't keep him from getting in, it will keep him from getting a security clearance. So in other words...hooray for infantry. That's what he is qualified for if you have no chance at a security clearance. But I am a Navy veteran not Army. Things are similar but not the same. Rules might be different in the Army. I doubt he will be rejected from service. I know people who have done much much worse and gotten in without a problem. But if he thinks the military won't find out about it, he is delusional. All they have to do is run a quick background check. They will find everything from old unpaid debts to parking tickets from 10 years ago. If there are old debts or tickets, and the military doesn't catch them immediately, they will catch them when he is in and they will make him pay for it. See, he is a guaranteed paycheck. All old debts are priority over anything else.

He shouldn't have trouble getting in. The best thing for him to do is to be totally honest with the recruiter about it so they can prepare for it. Its best that they are aware of it in the beginning than to stumble upon it later and see him as a liar.

Honesty is the best policy. In this and everything else.

If it was at a national park, it's a federal misdemeanor.
If they look into it, they will see the possession charge.

The same thing happened to me three years ago. I'm not sure how long it stays on your record.
