What is wrong about the Iraq war?

We had no legitimate reason to invade.

As a retired 20 yr Vet, I recall that during Desert Shield/ Desert Storm , we only found a few weapons of mass destruction. The Gas weapons that they had was previously used on the Kurds in the northern region of Iraq. We had inspectors go through out there weapons and had them destroyed. This invasion was conducted with bad, false intelligence.

There were no weapons of mass destruction; and all evidence shows the Bush Administration knew that before they went in, and actively hid that evidence from Congress and the public to make sure support was there when the Bush Administration did go in.

Saddam Hussein was no longer a threat to us or anyone else outside of Iraq.

And Saddam Hussein was actually the one who was keeping Iran in check. The Sunni Saddam Hussein and the mostly Shiite Iran didn't get along too well, and had gone to war more than once.

Iran was avoiding work on its nuclear program out of fear that Saddam Hussein might have caught wind of it and attacked, putting them into a war they could ill-afford. But now that Hussein is gone, Iran no longer has any major threat to keep them in line. They have now begun work on their nuclear program again.

And most of all, you can't find Osama bin Laden, the actual terrorist mastermind, in a country in which he is not residing. We've been distracted too long and need to get back to the real War on Terror.

Hello. The war is based on lies and there were no WMD. Iraq did not do 9-11. Iraq was no threat to the USA.

I don't believe there is anything wrong with it. I know that I'll meet alot of resistance with my position but it is what I truly believe. I think that the media has severely skewed the entire thing. Now I know that there were no confirmation of WMD's but people also have to understand that they could have found something that people just couldn't handle. There are stuff out there that would cause mass hysteria if the details were released. It would be alot easier for the government to just deal with alot of negative press than to deal with mass hysteria.

Ten thousand dead Iraqis tell an ugly story.

They have long memories in the Middle East and if that's not enough we filled their soil with depleted uranium. No matter what anyone does the United States will be hated in that part of the world for a very long time. Even if they adopt democracy (they might, it's not impossible) it will be a democracy that does not like the U.S.

What do you do against that kind of opposition?

The noble thing to do is to say we're sorry and leave. Safe? No. Some of them will still hate us, much as many Vietnamese still hate us. However nothing we do is safe. We beat them into submission with the surge but you can only hold a few million people down by force for so long. Select your fate.
