What is wrong with training prisonsners to go to war instead of caring for them with monies we don't have?

yo dude there might be a draft in america soon but that is some what drafting but draft is were they don't sign up there forced into it and pluss it is the kids who are 18 if there is a draft though 25 who have to go or there forced into a jail sell i really don't know what happening to america but i hope someone will just say it is not right you know people sign up tto help but most of them die it is just so sad and the president is letting them do it why doesn't he fite them then he would know what people have to face every day......

they have already proven themselves to be untrustworthy. How long would they hold out if captured? Can they be trusted with the information they would need to do their job?
Would you want the guy behind you to be a convicted felon- will he cover your butt when necessary?
I personally don't think this would be a good idea at all.

Interesting idea. I don't think someone who doesn't want to be there would be an effective fighting force, but then millions were drafted before. Some prisoners might even like the idea of doing their time on the battle lines, and some of them probably have good fighting skills! There would be a security issue, though with them trying to escape. But, it's really a good idea for a test program. Kudos!

Would you give someone with a gun who can't be trusted to not turn the weapon on you? Making a convicted criminal a soldier and giving him a weapon would be tantamount to hiring a wolf to guard sheep.

BTW, in the enlistment contract, it states that your enlistment can be extended at the needs of the Army as per the Stop-loss clause in time of national needs. Deployments can also be extended without warning to prevent shortfalls in manpower as the needs of the Army require.

Anyway, it's the Army. You don't join and expect not to go to war when there's one on, do you?

They could also join up with terrorists or insurgents, or start their own gangs. No reason to assume they'd fight for the U.S..

My son is one of those fathers, and he has already served there for two years (4 combat tours) and is now on orders to go back......wait...listen.....nope...I don't hear him griping about it muchless referring it to a draft. There are some poeple in the world that go around with their head stuck up the butt, and you sir are collectively most of them!

No control over them their training - what would stop them from shooting our soldiers, against Geneva Convention -we do not want our soldiers forced to fight our own troops & etc.

This war has not bee going on since 1400s - they have never been democratic before.
Extending one's deployment is nothing like the draft. If you joined you sign papers saying you would serve when & where your Officers requested. Drafting is when you had no choice in being in the military.

My husband is a solider in the US Army and I don't think I would feel comfortable knowing someone with a background like that watching my husband's back. I agree with the training but putting many people there who don't believe or see any difference being made is very dangerous. It could put many more lives in danger and cause a lot more problems than good. I do agree with your views and the Draft but I semi understand. We have a 6 month old daughter and I worry about both of them when he leaves again and when he returns. I know my husband enlisted and this is his job so I support him and all of our troops.

So you are willing to put prisoners in a situation where they have not only freedom of movement but weapons as well.....
Who would you send? The rapist who while he is there can rape more women? The child molester who will be able to harm another child? The murderer who doesn't care about who he kills just so long as he gets to kill someone? Drug dealers etc? What's to stop any of them from running off into the sunset, disappearing and doing what they want to do?
BTW it's Iraq not Irac. Atleast spell the country correctly.
Also drafting is where a person is involuntarily sent to war because there are not enough people serving in the active military to complete whatever "mission" the government has for the military. Being sent over for six months and then having the time extended is NOT drafting it is called extension of service.
