What kind of actual effect do the anti war protesters have on america?

I don't know about now, but in 1970-1973 war protest was big, thousands and thousands were in the streets. They were from all walks of life, all ages all with a common goal of ending the Vietnam war. The government finally took notice and the congress cut off the funding and that ended another never ending war.

Those people that are protesting at funerals for the brave dead solders that are being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan are a fringe group from a church in Kansas and have very little to do with the end the war movement. I agree those people are wrong to do this. However I do not agree that war protesters are unpatriotic. This war was wrong from the very beginning and to support it you become a tool of the military/industrial complex. These people are dying for others to profit and it is just wrong. It was started based on lies of the president to congress and the American people and it is being extended for the same reason and that is profit. According to polls there are many more people that are against the war and the handling of the war then there are people still for it.

I've never heard any anti-war protestor call for the killing of our soliders. All I've heard them do is call for an end to the killing of our soldiers. If they are all withdrawn, how can they be killed?
As to your question...if you really want an answer...they keep the war in the news, show that there are many political opinions regarding the war and not just one or two, they show that we as Americans still have freedom of speech which is very important if you want to be called an American, and they keep it current. If all we heard was bland reports and rhetoric people would forget the human toll of this.

It really bothers me that you want to silence fellow Americans and call them anti-American because they disagree with you. This is not an American value and I hope you will rethink your position.

The protesters are the moral authority in America. The people who send our young people to die and kill in the name of God and country for no real reason are without morals.

it is not dying - these people I am sure would kill any foreign soldier who touched foot in the states - but we are never fighting in the states always in someone elses backyard - killing some enemies but also creating collateral damage - accidentally killing fathers- mothers - children - imagine that in the us and maybe you will have a little bit of the protesters prospective - also there is a culmination of things these people are against - they dont want their rights treaded upon - they are the people who keep me centered

There is growing sentiment in this country towards the major issues like immigration, foreign policy, and monetary policy.
The protestors on all sides are just proof that things need to change. It doesnt mean they necessarily have good solutions or go about getting what they want the right way.

But where would we be if no one protested?

Its easy to single out the protestors that you describe. I do it too, at times. I dont agree with those that come off as disrespectful and vandalize. Committing more crimes just makes things worse. Yet there are many different types of protestors, and the issue of protesting encompasses a very important concept. Free speech is critical to a free society. I think thats generally understood in America. We shouldnt throw that away.

One thing that is often overlooked is the fact that the rights guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights are not gauranteed by government but by the people. This government was created by speaking against oppressive government. By engaging in revolt and secession. Those were Treasonous acts against the prevailing government at the time! These were the 1st patriots!
So, we may not always agree with one another on issues, but protestors have every right to speak their minds.
Maybe they actually have some valid points. We need to come together on some things and agree to disagree on others.
The only other option is more of the same and worse.

I don't think they actually ridicule the soldiers. I don't know why so many people want to just suddenly withdraw the troops from Iraq but we must stay in Iraq until Iraq can have peace between each other(including Sunnis and Shiites) and other countries. MOST people saying we should withdraw don't ridicule the soldiers AT ALL. I do support the troops until Iraq can achieve peace.

Only in America can we have freedom of speech. I guess from your question you hate "freedom of speech"... It is sad when all of theses right wing conservatives... complain about the anti war protesters. If not them, then who. If it were left up to the NeoCons ...this President can do no Wrong! I am sick of the PHONY, PEER PRESSURED PATRIOTISM. It means absolutely nothing to me... Real Patriots are the ones who protest against their government when it is Blatantly Wrong ..i.e. this useless, needless war.
Conservatives would like to continue giving Bush a pass like they have been doing for the pass five years. And Americans are feed up with it... Republicans have forgotten about... the Constitution. something called ..."CHECKS AND BALANCES". But I guess they will continue to try to take more of our freedoms away...Until the People rise up against them...Thank God ...for the shift in power... just maybe they will reign this administration in. Speaking of liars... they impeached Clinton lying about a "BJ" and they let this Bush take us to a war , based upon a big lie. Now who is really looking out for you and me? ... go figure!

There were riots in New York during the Civil War and many people that lived in th colonies backed the British. After Sitting Bull's men killed Col. Custer, he toured the United States in various shows and was never arrested.

The United States government had to lie to the American people about the Spanish American War (a common accident became a terrorist attack on the Maine), The Mexican American War (the U.S. kept playing with the boundries and the Alamo was in what was then Mexico) and the WWI (the Lusitania really did have lots of weapons onboard and the U.S. and British were using human shields) to get the blessing of the people. The Civil War went from keeping the Union together to freeing the slaves (Lincoln flopped on why the war was happening).

Anti-war protesters are hardly new nor is the government lying to get into a war.

I don't think it has that much effect on the general American population because there are two or more prisoners in the U.S. for every one member in the U.S. military. Each year there are 56 Americans killed in auto accidents than have died in Iraq and Afganistan.

Morals in America are the backbone of this entire country. It's a shame that we have lost an unmeasurable amount of them today. I think everything that America has to offer to the next generation is very harmful to the future and a very ridiculous thing. I myself am for the war and a conservative republican. I think that the protesters against the war are large road blocks to victory and a better tomorrow. What I don't understand is that freedom isn't free, and the protesters don't even realize that people HAVE to die in order to keep freedom in or reach. Because The terrorist are NOT going down without a fight. As you can see by the tapes that they send us showing beheadings, and firing squads. The worst of it all, is that the liberals are struggling to keep all the taxes to domestic welfare rather than for the war. Maybe that's why we can't afford guns on the Humvee. All I'm saying is that, protesters are a grave resource for our faltering in the war. And to think George Bush is getting all the blame.

Yeah we had a little protest in Milwaukee I dont know if you heard about it. Oh I was soooo angry they protested by the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee at a Army recruiting center. Broke window's threw paint and human fecal matter on the walls. Guess what they got so far tickets!!! Nice hey I called the City attorneys office demanded that they get charged with Federal time then I called US States Attorney's office Demanded that they do something. It makes me sick how the Left is out on this witch hunt. Patriotism my friend you are correct is dying its makes me very sad. I hate to bring it up because it was a terrible time in American History but 9-11 I felt so good to be an American we or at least I felt this country was unified. However with this witch hunt being run by the Left I feel sick. My only hope is that President Bush and the Right start to defend themselves more.
