A believe a black arm band is apropriate if you want to indicate that you're in mourning for a loved one.
The yellow ribbon is traditionally to indicate that you have a household member in the military serving overseas (or maybe it's just in wartime). |

I agree with black for mourning, but I feel a Blue, White, and Red striped ribbon would be better.
Blue is for the clear sky above
White is for the clear view ahead

I cannot imagine what you are going through. I would wear a thicker black ribbon with a thinner yellow one over the black, but honestly, it is what you feel is appropriate. I'm not sure there really is a correct or incorrect way of going about this type of thing.
I am so sorry for the loss that you and your family have endured. Forget all the war mumbo jumbo, you lost your cousin and for that I am sorry :( Wear whichever ribbon you feel conveys how you feel and what you'd want your cousin to see you wear.
You and your family have a long, hard road in front of you and I hope knowing you are in our thoughts helps you through it. |

Technically speaking neither. Yellow is to support the troops or historically for when you have a loved one overseas. The black is for POW or MIA (prisoner of war or missing in action). However, that being said I would suggest whatever you feel best exemplifies you sentiments about the way you feel. Soldiers wear a silver bracelet with the name, rank, etc. of the person killed. I suggest you ask someone you know where you can have one of these made. |

A small lack ribbon is fine. But, may I suggest a more tangible way of commemorating his life? Have your friends and family (except for his immediate next of kin) send a check to the Army Emergency Relief. They can mark the check as a contribution in his memory. It's an official charity which takes care of the needs of our soldiers and their families when they are in trouble financially or otherwise. The URL for their web site is below.
