What makes the US military great?

If I taxed my brain and your patience, I could name about fifty soldiers, non-commissioned officers, and officers whom I personally served with, tell you one or two stories about each that I witnessed first-hand and would swear to if asked, then you'd know what makes the US Military great.

It's the people wearing the uniform that make it great. It isn't the machinery, and it isn't the population that supports them (or doesn't), and it for doggone sure isn't the government that lacks the capacity to understand or appreciate them.

The combination of each military, Army, Navy Marines and Airforce, Coast Guard working together;

The technonlogy aspect is a big one also; being able to strike small targets from ships or land based platforms thousands of miles away and out of sight;

What makes a military poor, is Managment of Affairs and abuse of forieng policy.

Choosing the right ally.
This is the only way US military win in a major conflict.

Our soldiers: It is an all volunteer force

Our Equipment: We spend ALOT and work hard to always strive to ahve the best equipped force.

Our Training: Soem countries have good training as well, but most of those are lacking in either 1 or 2 above.

We spend 5% or so of our GDP on our military. We have more ICBMs than any other country, and more deliverable nukes than any other country. We also have several hundred SLBMs. Our assault rifles are state of the art and our military combat vehicles are relatively advanced.

The only country who uses the AK-47, cannot afford Colt's M series and upkeep them.

It used to be great, before it was controlled by the new world order. Nothing against the troops, mind you. I just wish they were controlled by an American is all.

The people. They do their jobs even when they disagree with what is going on overall. I'm proud to have serve for the past twelve years, and Overall, the military is filled with great people.

The fact they volunteered.
The quality of their training.
The quality of their supplies.
Their discipline.
The clear rules with which they must comply.
The unified support of the American people.

(We might be falling a little short on that last one, but the others are still in place.)

The soldiers (to include Airmen, Sailors, and Marines), I know this is cliched, but when you are in a war zone, there is nothing except the guy next to you. The equipment, the allies, nothing else matters.

nothing makes the us better than any other except for we have more technology then most, as a matter of fact if you knew the background of many of the soldiers you would laugh, we have guys with criminal records, guys who could not make it in a real job, because they are just plain dumb, and what is funny is they are in charge of troops. the american army is nothing more than welfare with pride, its alot of people with no drive or ambition to go to school and find a real job, sure maybe most say they join for college money but statistics show that less than half ever use their college money, how is that for bright individuals.
