What navy job boards other boats such as suspected drug runners etc?

The boarding parties are made up of volunteers from the crew, so they can be any rate. Gunners mates, boatswains mates, those are two in particular to look at.

Edit: For all of those that said "The navy does not board ships", how do you explain Naval boarding parties or the fact that people I knew were on them? Speak again when you earn your sea-service ribbon. I don't try to speak about other services in anything more then a general fashion, and if I am not sure I won't guess.

Coast Guard for drug boats. The navy does not have law enforcement authority (except in a few instances) and the Coast Guard does.

The job of interdiction is not really a navy function. They perform surveillance duties in coastal waters, but it is the Coast Guard which generally interdicts ships and performs boardings.

Hey, Scooter, if you really were a Navy Chief, then perhaps you'll also remember all those Navy people that were boarding commercial ships did so with Coast Guard personnel by their side!!

For the Navy, it can be any of a huge number of ratings, but Boatswain's Mates (Bosun's or BM's) will probably have the biggest chance to be involved.

For the Coast Guard, there will be any rating, but soon to be lots of ME's - Maritime Enforcement Specialists.

Check out the Coast Guard then. They are actually the only military service that has boarding,arrest,and seizure powers of any of the services. The others do not unless martial law is declared in US territorial waters and outside of that it is the Coast Guard that actually augments other countries in this work.

If the Navy is there and gets a call about a drug boat, then they will stop it. Scooter is right on! Usually crews of "SMall Boys" (destroyers, frigates, cruisers)

They also handle illegal shipping, i.e. the old Iraqi old embargo.

Usually you have some Gunners Mates and a few Boatswains Mates, and a Hospital Corpsman.

Closer to the US coast the Coast Guard handles all that.

If you are looking for an exciting job in the navy that involves boarding ships and doing search and seizure of drugs, weapons, etc. Then you might want to look into special warfare if you think you have what it takes. The special warfare group I am talking about is SWCC (special warfare combat-craft crewman). They do a lot of exciting stuff; one of them being search and seizure. You can learn a lot about them by simply googling SWCC, but you should really talk to a recruiter.
