What "combat jobs" are there in the US Navy?

I know for a fact that I can't go to the USNA right out of highschool but my recruiter told me that if I spent two years in the Navy, showed great leadership and that I want an education, then I will get in for sure. I want to serve in combat so I can at least say I helped serve my country because when I get out of the USNA, I'll be working toward my career. I'm not talking about SEALS or SWCC, but are there any like "gun ship" jobs or positions I can serve for just two years?

My grades aren't that wonderfull, 3.0 GPA, Im a sophomore in highschool and I found out that electives dont count in your GPA. But otherwise Im perfect for the Academy as far as sports (track and cross country), community service, and Im working on the letters of recommendations. Im also part of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

Waiting for September

Everyone here is right, if its not SEALs or Seabees, you wont get any combat, and getting into the Naval Academy is still extremely difficult while you are in Navy. The Sec. of the Navy can choose 85 sailors to attend the Academy. And you still have to get recommendations from your officers, and be less than 23 years old by the time you attend. And there are probably hundreds if not thousands of other sailors or Marines competing for the same slots as you.

EDIT: dude you are barely a sophomore, you have plenty of time to bring your GPA up and get the right classes, and get to know your representatives from your district, you still have a shot at the Naval Academy, enlisting just to get into the Academy is not a smart thing to do

Gunners Mate is the only one i can think of but even they get hardly any combat. Good thing theres the marines to take all that sh!tload of combat off the navy

First off your recruiter lied, and if you believe that you will get into the USNA "for sure" your are a fool.

It is true that there are programs that help you get into Boost which is a preparatory program to go to the Naval Academy. You will have to meet all of the qualifications and be accepted. It is very competitive.

One of the best type of duties that will prepare you for the Academy or ROTC would be something that goes to sea. The Navy is a Sea-going and Sea warfare branch of the military. Try one of the ratings that goes on a ship. If you become an officer that is where they will want to send you.

BTW you can go straight to the Academy from High School. You apply like everyone else and get a congressional recommendation. If you have good grades and have a good student record. (sports, activities, band, student leadership, JROTC, etc then that helps)

other than special forces and seabees, none. Dont let people tell you master at arms is. I was one for 4 years and watched people take piss tests.thank God for the army
