What should I do? He hasn't even cared to call since I broke up with him?

I'm middle eastern and my boyfriend is american/italian. We have been together for a year. We have had some problems, but this is the best year I have ever had. A few months ago he got infatuated with "America" and said he wanted to join the marines. Since his dad has his own business, and he has so many opportunities, I told him that we shouldn't be together if he signs up. He didn't go. For the last few months, there has been a few signs that he was going to join, like removing one of his tattoos, however he swore to God that he wasn't going to join. On Sunday, he told me he was going to join the Army Reserves. I cried and told him I love him so much and I don't want him to go and die in a guerilla war. He basically said he has to do this. He swore he hadn't signed anything, & yesterday he said he signed some papers like for his physical. and he was going to do this. His parents are a lot of the problem because they tell him he should go b/c he's a loser, etc. I broke up with him.

He needs to do his duty.......his chances of being killed are a lot less than being hit by a car crossing the street, in his home town.. Odds of being killed are about 1 in 20,000.

He made his choice. You obviously couldn't handle that so YOU ended it. So you want him to come and grovel or something? Just move on and let him do what he wants with his life. Not all relationships are forever you know.

usually when you break up with somebody they're not supposed to call you that's just the way it works it may be different in Kazakhstan.

So, his parents tell him he's a loser and you do the same thing for the opposite reason? Hmmm, who should he believe? Maybe, just maybe, he's trying to work out his own destiny and figure out who he his? Condemn him if you want, but I'd respect someone who sought answers on his own rather than letting other people tell him who he was and what he should do. You and his parents both want some obedient child, not a grown up. It's just too bad that this showdown has been forced on him and he has no one to support him. But, I suspect he'll survive, and good luck to him on his road.

You left him why should he call you, if you want to work things out then you need to make the move, not him. I think you should be proud that he wants to serve his country and support his wants and dreams.

Let's look at this again. You broke up with him. Doesn't that mean you don't want to see him any more? If someone broke up with me and didn't want to see me anymore, why should I call?

I think you should let him be and he needs some space and so do you. If you really loved him, you would support him in all his endeavors whether you think it is wrong or right. I support my military husband even though, I don't always agree with the military's actions. If his heart is set on this goal, you are not going to change his mind. Give it some time and think about it more. Good Luck to you and your friend.

if you truely love him you cant put limitations on that. its something important to him. and if you love him then you should support him. you may not agree with him but you should support him.

He doesnt sound stable, you should call some kind of mental health professionals or law enforcement. Better to be safe than sorry.
