What should I expect if I join the Coast Guard?

I'm a freshman in high school and I'm interested in joining the military after I graduate. I've looked up some stuff online, but I'd like more information. (The Coast Guard struck me as most interesting.)

What kind of skills would I have to have? What have your experiences been like?

since half their job is search and rescue you need to be in top physical condition. they're kinda like sea going cops, they do a lot of drug interdiction, and all sorts of maritime border security. they operate maritime radio systems.

and you will mostly be assigned to posts on or near the water!

About one year of waiting to ship to boot camp, and possibly months before you go to A-school. The USCG only recruits about 5,000 new people every year and there are 300 million people in the U.S. That explains the waiting period.
