I've recently been widowed, I intend to honour my beautiful husband's life by attending an remembrance day parade (I've attended many before - just never as a widow) I want to make sure I get everything right. So I need to know which side of my chest I wear them.

I agree, on the right side. Irrespective of whether one agrees with the wars we are involved in, decent people should recognise the tremendous sacrifice your husband and you have made. Many people have the misguided (in my opinion) attitude that honoring our fallen soldiers, sailors, and airmen in some way glorifies war. On the contrary - it reminds us that there is a high price to be paid for war and that only a special few are prepared to risk paying that price on our behalf. Please accept my good wishes; I hope now that the state discharges it's responsibility to you in a way which recognises what you and your husband have done for us. Thank you for reminding me - I will make sure I attend a remembrance day parade this year. |

Allowance is made for family members of a deceased recipient to wear that person's medals on commemorative occasions.
When worn by others, the usual protocol recommended is that the medals are worn on the right side to show that the wearer is not the original recipient. |

right hand side i think,sorry bout your man,if your in the uk go to your local british legion club (they organise the parades) would be someone there that can keep you right,good on you for going |

You should wear your husband's medals on your right, thank you for attending the memorial, it will show others the sacrifice being made by our young men and women

Usually on the right side of the dress. However, it is not mandatory. Its just become a protocol, mark of respect etc. When my Father was buried, many of his former colleagues arrived for the funeral. A serving military man myself, all his colleagues, collectively, removed his medals from atop his coffin and pinned them over my own. In fact re arranging my uniform jacket to accommodate them. My initial objections quietly and firmly put aside. My Mother a party to it all - and her arm in mine throughout the entire service. |
