What to do with the prisoners?

1) Most of them have already been released.

2) Of those left... I'm not sure. They exist in a kind of legal limbo, as they were fighting in the armed forces of an illegitimate government.

They should count themselves lucky; most other nations would have considered them bandits and/or terrorists and executed them on the spot...

Hmmm.... perhaps the complexities of the situation is why they are still there?

Why? Because that is probably the only way I could impress upon you what a stupid, ignorant a**hole you really are.

And not just because you are slandering the fine young men & women of the armed forces who run Gitmo; your biggest crime is that you trivialize the intense suffering of those who were actually incarcerated in the concentration camps of the Nazi regime.

The USA legal system presumes that a person is innocient until proven guilty. The basic dictatorship legal system usually states that you are guilty until proven innocient.

The risk is if you release a guilty person (USA method), then they might do something bad again. Whereas the other method ensures that the bad will NOT happen again as everyone who is even suppected of it is gone.

In the case of Guantanamo - if in fact these people are there primarily because they were caught on the battlefield or in other situations where they were killing or trying to kill American or others, then we probably have no choice but to either keep them locked up or execute them.

Just releasing them back to their mother country may or may not do much good as the person could be set free and return to trying to kill more Americans.

At what point does the USA say enough? The Golden Rule Does Not Work Here - The Platium Does "Do Unto Others As They Want To Be Done Unto"! The last time I checked - the US does not behead people for just being a particular nationality!

Military tribunals into their guilt/innocence. NO DEATH PENALTY. Innocent shipped back to their countries of residency (to the waiting arms of people who WILL TORTURE THEM FOR REAL). Guilty locked alone in a dark room, forever, with no bed/Koran/clothes/or hard objects capable of being used in suicide. Never to be bargained for by future terrorists, who will inevitably call for their release.

I would let them stand trial in US courts or drop them back where they were picked up...literally...via parachute.

In my own utopian based head I'd just give them all fair trials. Realistically that's difficult and expensive. I admit that. I wouldn't release them though. I'm no politician, I dunno.

Personally, this will sound cruel, but I think they should "take no prisoners" just shoot them cleanly and then we wouldn't have this question.

Seriously, I would not be too merciful to those with evidence against them. I believe you are in it to win it and let the chips fall where they may. Political correctness has no place in this war.

i wonder, would it help to treat our prisoners the same way as they treat prisoners? i do know that there was little to no outcry about the two paratroopers that were butchered recently in iraq, but there was a lot of screaming, and prison time, for U S Military personnel for making prisoners wear women's clothing and a large out cry for taking photos of saddam doing his own laundry. i believe the blurb i read on that was "Geneva Convention Violation"

i honestly don't have a real answer, but i will say this...the "so-called" prison there is no better than the concentration camps of the Hitler era...we just assume that since the Unites States is in charge that everything there is of a morally acceptable standard.
soon, the veil will be lifted for all to see, but i bet for some it will be too late. God bless us everyone for we truly need it. ty.
