Snipers, helicopters, jungle warfare, the idea that America may not be able to win, but can possibly tie, massive artistic movement (Apocolypse Now, great great movie you gotta see it) etc. Also it was the first war that was directly made a disaster by the mass media. If there was no media then the U.S. likely would have smashed NV, but the casulties were too high for the peoples comfort. Justifiably so too. I don't know completely why the U.S. thought it was worth it in the first place, but that's political and you don't want politics.
I realize I'm straying into political territory here, but I can't help it... The media thing. In the first gulf war the media was kept out of Iraq and look at how successful that was... In the second and current the media can go wherever they want and bam guess what... There have been so many problems from the start... Though it's getting much better now. I don' t like the mass media if you haven't guessed. One of my favorite things about the internet is that I can choose my sources and listen to people who were actually there. Okay I'm done with my rant. |

First lesson, before you send in the military to get involved in any conflict there must be a clear goal on what needs to be achieved and how to achieve that goal.
The U.S. has seen the value of having special operation units. A good number of them were formed during the Vietnam War. |

The French gave up their Southeast Asian empire and the self determination of the Vietnamese people was realized after the war ended. |

The Defense Industry made a lot of money. A lot of todays Generals received combat training. Many Americans Servicemen and Women lost their their lives. Millions of Vietnamese did.
America decided the Draft was not a good idea.
it was started with a false flag operation. "Gulf of Tonkin" incident was a phony set-up to get us into the "war" (actually its official title is the " Vietnam Conflict"...since Congress then was too chicken to vote for War...I now think they thought the "Gulf of Tonkin" sham would be exposed earlier.... 35 years later and there are still cover-ups.
It is hard not to be "political" about such a horrific mistake! I lost friends and classmates in that conflagration and every time new lies come out from the "Freedom of Information Act" my blood boils.
Oh yeah, it was the last time , I think that France interfered in another country business in a colonialist way.....I think. Might be wrong about that. ...Angola? Hmmmm. |

The role of the sniper was solidified in the US military. Before then the sniper wasn't valued as much. Also we started to train our soldiers in jungle warfare. |

Our people showed us just how disrespectful and ungrateful they could be to their own hero's. Does it really matter? why we were there? WE treated our soldiers like garbage--UN ACCEPTABLE |

The Viet Nam Conflict(war was not declared) proved that politicians have no business in war.
It also proved that the media is incapable of telling an unbiased story. |

The Vietnam war or conflict as some call it, achieved nothing at all.........but death. 58,000 us soldiers dead. The war proved that we should know our allies and enemy before just entering a war.
To me, the conflict proved one thing..............The government is to blame for everything. |

Vietnam was a domino game to the politicians. All they could worry about was not letting the dominoes fall. America learned for a short time to let the dominoes fall where they may. |

Nothing was accomplished. It was just like with Iraq. It was a pointless and unnecessary war. |

Show what juggle fighting, guerrilla tactics, AK-47, crappy M16, missile failure, and non-gun fighter jets is like. |

Nothing at all. The United States realized that they could not control everything beyond their borders, and evacuated their personnel as Vietnam was quickly taken over by the communists of North Vietnam.
Jesse has the best answer, as far as I'm concerned, as it is more informational and seems slightly less biased than mine. |

The Vietnam war was the first war that the Americans did not win. It was a tie. |
