The best part for me was finding out that I COULD do more than I thought I could. I was afraid of PT before I went in but I did every challenge they threw at me.

Graduation, Hehe
I really enjoyed Battlestations. It is the last official part of the Navy training. You get woken up at about 3 am and they run you around the base to several different stations doing all the things you had been taught to do during basic.
Although carrying the Seabags filled with waterlogged clothing i could have done without. |

The last week. Right before graduation and your family visits, and the Drill Sergeants annouce you are no longer recuits but United States Soldiers.
That was my proudest moment. |

The end of course as others have said. I really enjoyed the guys comment about "to much rifraff". Its true, all these random people so it is more fun later when you are around those who are more alike to you later.
But during? Depends on what you are doing but regardless if you approch it right it has it's high points. Sure people are messing with you. But......
Stand there in uniform and think "yea! I made the decision and I am here!". You did it and you will be proud of this forever and have a future. Others talk about it and regret not doing so it but you are doing it.
Years of watching war of action things on TV? Well now it is real! You go to the range and they put a weapon in your hand. Used to play soldiers in the dirt as a kid? Shoot (a pun) now you are getting paid to do so.
Regardless you are actually doing something that none can ever take away from you. That is the best part. |

I'm ex AF, served under Reagan. (79-86)
The best part was hearing my instructor yelling "Halt dumb ***" to the point man in formation, laughing, and getting away with it. Trust me, you'll have good and bad times. I would also say building comaradre among each other. Other times were seeing other trainees in the "snake pit" at chow, learning not to make the same mistakes they made.
Overall, you'll walk away with a sense of what it's like to be a true American. All right troop... go kick some 6. |

The best part of USMC bootcamp for me was a week before graduation. We went through a 3-day evolution called "The Crucible", after successful completion of the evolution and a 10-mile hike, we had our "Eagle, Globe & Anchor ceremony" where our Drill Instructors didn't yell at us any more. It was the exact opposite, they stood in front of us, looked us in the eye, shook our hand and said, "Congratulations, you're a Marine now" and handed each of us an "Eagle, Globe & Anchor" uniform pin. Throughout the entire ceremony, Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American" was playing on loud-speakers. |

Gradution day or family day!! I forget what it was called. After starting to get turned on by the chow hall ladies with moustaches, my girlfriend came down and rode me. It was 15 secs of glory!! |

The last week or so, when you have everything figured out, and knew you were going to make it. You just cruise along with the program. I actually laughed at my drill instructor when he tried to break me down in the end, and he laughed back. (Wouldn't recommend this in the beginning)
You have been reintroduced to the real world with a weekend off base to adjust back to reality. When you understood that your drill instructors were just doing a job, and were really wanting you to make it. There is a personal confidence that is higher than any high. You feel like you could do anything at that point, and you will be in the best physical condition of your life.
That was it for me anyway. |

Basic training Fort Jackson - the last road march back from Victory Forge (the 7 day field training exercise at the end of BCT). The road march was long and exhausting after an already long week. All the Company's in my Batallion got back at about the same time. We marched around the water tower and then down to this big open field on a hill side. There we saw the largest bon-fire I had ever seen. We formed up still in all our gear and our Batallion Commader gave a really good speech. They had a huge sound system set up playing patriotic songs like "American Soldier" and "God Bless America". It was a very proud moment. |

Thinking about it years later with fond memories. You make bonds with your buddies that last a life time. Not much fun while you are there, but certainly something to tell your grand kids. |

The point when you realize they are just messing with you to see if you will crack under pressure. After that it is all gravy. The weapons are a close second :) |
