What was the score in the Obama/ Somali pirates game?

Pirates Two, Obama Zero.

First, when the US Navy arrived they could have put SEALs into the water on the other side so they were not seen and they could have drilled some holes in the life boat. As it went down, the Navy could have told the pirates the captain had better be the first one off the boat. Then the SEALs could have helped him to safety and could have grabbed the pirates in the water where they would be too busy to shoot at anything.

Second, if the SEALs had been in the water, they could have helped the captain when he made his break for it. Instead he got recaptured.

Obama is working of strike three by letting this go on and on. He is beginning to look a lot like Jimmy Carter, thinking he can talk his way out of it.

What I would do? As I suggested first, put SEALs in the water and drill holes in the life boat.

For the future? Offer to convoy ships and use the old WW II "Q-Ship" strategy. Get some cargo ships and load them to the hilt with Marines. Then let the pirates onto the deck and shoot them down. Do that about 3-4 times and the pirates will be out of business. But Obama will not do that as it is too nasty. He wants a nice easy fix that does not hurt the pirates.

No. The score stands, US (Obama) 1 ship : Pirates, one lifeboat and Captain. I assume that the Captain will be liberated unharmed. We could easily blow the Pirates out of the water, but general consensus is that we don't want to escalate things so that the Pirates start using more firepower. So far, there have been few deaths involved in these hijackings. As for my opinion, I would like to see the Pirates blown to hell.

If the force of the NAVY SEALS would solve anything, it would solved the Tehran hostage, it would've saved Daniel Pearl, it would've made Somalia a relatively peaceful country to start with.

BOTTOM LINE: Force DOES NOT work, and WILL NOT always work unless force is used in addition to knowing what you are doing. Anyone can shoot, and kill. Do I need to list you events that involved people killed?. Come on.

The Commander in Chief knows more than what the "NAVY SEALS" knows. Remember, the SEALS are just trained guys sent to accomplish a mission. The Commander in Chief is briefed daily, informed by the intelligence committee, the FBI, the CIA. He knows what he is doing, a NAVY SEAL does not.

The pirates held 15 SHIPS to this day. Including a recently captured Italian ship. You think all that happened WHILE NO NAVY WAS AROUND?. No, the NAVY was there but CAN NOT engage until they are at risk themselves. That is not an Obama rule or policy, it is an international rule.

Did you know that the pirates and US NAVY ships actually watch one another, but can't do anything until they are caught in the act of hijacking?

Basically, they are free at sea to hijack, but something CAN ONLY be done when a hijacking takes place. Most people don't know about this. That is why the pirates roam free at sea. They are confident they will not be shot at until they fire at the NAVY ships.
