I joined the USMC to make a better life for myself and to get a college education. I wound up loving the lifestyle and have been a Marine for 18 years. I have obtained my Masters Degree from college but still love what I do. I feel a sense of pride knowing that I serve this great country of ours and that I'm protecting those who cannot protect themselves. There is no greater thing that one can do with their life but to sacrifice your life for others. |

I joined the military because it is something I always wanted to do. My family is when it comes to the military, i have several relatives who either are currently serving, or have served in the past. I guess that's why I joined the military. |

I joined for more then one reason. I was 18 yrs old when I joined. I wanted to see the world. Which I have seen alot of it. I did not want to go to collage. I wanted to work with my hands, I work on aircraft. I love the uniform thing. I also figured it was the easy way to establish my life away from MOM and DAD. If you can understand what I mean. ITs not alway easy to find your own place when that age. BUt you must feel good about it. I would not give my 22 years up at all and would do it all again. |

I joined the Army because it was what I thought was the right thing to do. this country has given me the freedom to make my own choices, so I thought that the least I could do was help protect that freedom. |

I am not in the Military, but I believe that you need to do some sole searching. If I had to do it over again, I would have joined the military for several reasons. Education, change and for our country. We all need to thank the men and women who serve our country. They are our hero's, not those over paid gangster basket ball players or blotted ego actors. That is something for you to consider; I think that serving would make your life even that more meaningful. God bless our troops and you! |

I felt that it was the right thing to do; I joined the Marine Corps in 1966. Besides, somebody had to take Bill Clinton's place. |

I joined the Army for all of the above reasons. I wanted to serve my country and had lost a lot of friends from high school during Viet Nam, which wasn't popular either. My uniform was spit on, taxis wouldn't pick me up. I was belittled for joining as were so many other American soldiers.
As a young woman in the seventies women were still being terminated from employment for getting married or getting pregnant, in the private sector. It was a chance to show the world we could do it too. I was one of the first females placed in an Infantry Unit, even though we were relegated to desk jobs and later large trucks and all the things girls shouldn't be doing.
I wanted a chance to travel and see what's out there. It was a great experience and met some wonderful people along the way. Any woman that wants to can get right out there and Be All That She Can Be! The military is one of the few employers left that offers true Equal Opportunity for males and females. |

I was in the military and support our troups 100%, but our President has lost sight of what's going on in Iraq, so I'd recommend waiting until we get a new President with a solution to the problem. Everyone I know in the military has been to Iraq, most have been shot at, and many were hit. If you want to die for your country make sure it's for a good cause and not a mistake. Good Luck! |

I joined for several reasons. I wanted to see more of the world than I could have without joining. I wanted to recieve some of the best electronics training in the world. I wanted to turn my life around by learning self disipline. It was only after I had joined that I realized there are greater reasons to serve your country than anything you could gain for just yourself. There is a sense of pride and belonging that only those who have put the welfare of others before their own can ever know. There is also a newfound respect for all those who have served and given so much before you. Like anything else in life, the more you put into the military the more you will get out of it. |

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Or: There's no more noble a fate that a man (or woman) can endure than to put his own mortal body between his beloved home, and it's enemy's desolation.
Not my quotes, but sum up the ideals I hold. For ME, I also wanted to test myself and see just what I was capable of. The adventure aspect is almost irresistable to most. lol. The Education, travel, etc. are also part of why most join, but in themselves no single reason's enough. You'll have to decide for yerself, but if you've got sound reasons, I'd say "Go for it." It's a tough route, but then, the really great things in life rarely come easily. |

For myself by the time I finished high school i wasn't ready to go to college. I thought that by joining the military I'd find a direction and do something important. Along with this was an obligation with both of my older brothers serving in the Army and Marine Corp. With all of that and seven years later I'm still in with a job I love and working on college classes when I'm not at work. |

I joined back in '81 for two reasons. The first is that I always wanted to be in the Army. I can't explain that, it is just something I had wanted to do since I was a young kid. The second reason was that I wanted to accomplish something. I played sports in high school but mostly sat on the bench. I got decent grades, good enough for college but not outstanding. Joining the military allowed me to really start something positive. It helped me to boost my self esteem and now 25 years later I'm a senior officer in the Army Guard, have done a tour on active duty, have been mobilized for Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom and have also done more than a month helping people after Hurricane Katrina. Also, because of the military I have lived in Europe and have visited many countries that I would never have seen as a civilian (for the record, that included too trips to Germany as a member fo the Guard and I should go to South America this summer).
I highly recommed joining. I love the Guard, heck I drive over 300 miles one-way to drill because I like my unit that much. |

Escape from my present situation. After years of thinking, I wish I had remained where I was and faced life as it was then because it really wasn't as bad as I then thought it was. Looking back, it probably was one of the worse things I ever did. |

I am thinking about joining the marines. My reason is that I feel a void in my life, by just going to college |
