What will be the fate of Obama's plan in Afghanistan?

Will the US suffer the same fate as Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, The British Empire, and the former Soviet Union? I want to win, but what is the reality of winning in a country that has never been conquered. We have exhausted our support from the world thanks to W, our troops are tired, and we are facing a country that is dubbed " The Graveyard of Empires" . Realistically, what are our odds? Can our fatigued troops achieve what the greatest empires in history have failed to acheive?

The examples of the British and Soviet invasions are valid as indeed would Vietnam or even Israel/Palestine be.
You can invade any country you like, capture the whole place and garrison it with thousands of troops but if the locals hate you, they will make life increasingly difficult. In Afghanistan unless we make life better for the locals they will not care if we are blown up or shot.
Can we win them over and is it worth the effort? It is worth the effort but Im not sure we can, we have left it too late.
