Ygg and heart of darkness are right. Obama cannot cut the military budget, its something only congress can do.... which has already been controlled by the democrats for the last 4 years. Not much will change military wise and the closing of Gitmo is probably the smartest thing diplomatically Obama could have done.

BTW, the first downsizing of the military was performed during the Eisenhower Administration. You do remember Eisenhower, don't you? He was the guy who coined the term, "Military-Industrial Complex." The next person to dump on the military was Mr. Reagan. I am sorry to trouble you with facts.

2nd EDIT: You said, "The dropping of charges against Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri who bombed the USS Cole..." Having those charges dropped is NOT the same as releasing him from custody.

B)Gitmo was breaking the Geneva Convention or is at least acccused of it and is being investigated
C)He is trying to get our mind off terrorists so they cant be used as an excuse to make uneccessary military actions in the middle east(but not all are unneccessary) its kindov like a third person intruding into an argument and saying "Just Drop It!!!!!!"

He's kept Robert Gates on as Secretary of Defense which is a smart move on his part.

He's looking at cutting the defense budget by 10% according to Fox News...I'm not sure where Ashley is getting 25%. In this economy, everybody needs to tighten his or her belt. We are in this together.

I'm not sure what will happen to the military with Obama as President, but I think it's safe to say that he won't send them on some BS invasion and occupation that results in thousands of American military personnel killed and tens of thousands wounded, in addition to the killed and wounded Iraqi civilians and the damage to their infrastructure.

Not to mention the trillion+ dollars it cost the US taxpayers and the demoralizing effect it's had on US service members, in addition to the loosing ground in the legitimate conflict going on in Afghanistan.

The list goes on, but I'm sure you get the idea...Obama couldn't do much worse than President Cheney and Bush Jr.

Obama is going to basically take a crap on the military ... honestly he plans on cutting military spending by 25%, he will pull troops out of Iraq and add new American soldiers in Afghanistan! And, because he is the Messiah, he won't need to listen to our generals for advice because he already knows everything.

I actually have a feeling that people will start volunteering for the military more than they have in awhile. I hardly doubt he will be taking anything from it, any person with that level of intelligence knows, that improving our military right now is as important as fixing the economy. Also, the budget is Congress's responsibility.

The military budget will be Obama's spoiled brat trust fund, just like under Clinton, especially considering IT IS the Clinton Administration in charge. Budgets and benefits will be cut, weapons programs eliminated, and social engineering to frost the crap cake.

Look for a draft if soldiers start leaving en masse. Think they'll make a sequel to "Stop Loss" criticizing Barry?

I think a lot of very good people will leave the military as soon as they are able, just like a lot of very good people left when Clinton was president. I believe Obama intends to cut the heart out of our military, while creating a "civilian defense force" (as in Mao's Red Brigades) to "re-educate" US citizens.

I am so sick of the Obama whiners. Obama is not going to disband the military. This country is in a deep deep economic crisis triggered by badly managed bank activity. However, our financial problems have been building since the Reagan days.

You CANNOT have a strong military if you have a weak economy. Not over the long haul. So we better fix the economy or get ready to play 2nd fiddle or 3rd fiddle in the military arena as well.,

This was miss Clinton's biggest point, he seems to want to entirely forget about the military in sense you mention. The way i saw it was that he wants to sweep everything that made bush disliked under the carpet & forget about it till he's out of office or needs it.

I feel sorry for our Warriors. They have sworn an oath to protect the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. The biggest treat to our constitution is the guy who wants the "Fairness" doctrine and has promised gun control. Our troops risked their lives capturing the murdering coward jihadists, and Obama shuts the prison down using an Executive Order because he knows rational people will not agree to aiding the enemy.

Our warriors are in a tough position because if they support Obama they are breaking their oath.

There will be a lot more caualties in Afghanastan & Pakistan that the lives & limbs lost in Iraq. The only hope we have now is Petraus who H. Clinton and the ultra libs ridiculed him!

Obama is clueless and Clinton has no respect for the military. Where does this leave us? Not very encouraging.
