What would be a quicker way to become an Army Officer? Enlistment in Active Duty or the Army Reserve?

I was curious if it would be better for me to join the Army Reserve or the Army active duty in order to become an Army Officer quicker. I want to work and at the same time be able to gather the education requirements for becoming an Officer within my first 4 years.

If you want to be an army officer, you will have to either do ROTC at a college, go to west point, or go to one of the military colleges like VMI or the Citadel. Or, you can go to school first, and then go to either the army reserve/national guard officer candidate school or the Active duty Officer Candidate School after you graduate. If you want to be a full-time army officer, I would not enilist in the national guard. The best option is West Point, if that is possible for you. West Point is free tuition and board, and it is the best way to start a military career. The military colleges are the second best way to go. If you go to ROTC or to a military college like the Citadel or VMI (which are ROTC programs within a military school setting), You can get an ROTC scholorship to pay for most or all of your tuition and to pay for a few thousand dollars per year worth of living expenses. The problem with ROTC, is you are not guaranteed an active duty slot as an officer. I would go to school and take 2 years of ROTC, to see how you like it, drop out of ROTC, complete your degree, and enlist active duty on an officer candidate school contract. You can always get regular old financial aid to help with tuition and books. You will not be able to earn a degree in time to become an officer if you enlist active duty (not unless you get out and then finish your degree). It will take you at least 8 years to earn a degree while on active duty. If you enlist int eh guard or reserve, you will be required to serve in the guard or reserve for 6 years, and they will not let you switch to active duty. If you enlist ina SMP program they may not let you be an active duty officer either.

Neither. Finish college, then apply to OTS.

It will be difficult to complete a degree in four years with the aggressive deployment schedule for both the active and reserve Army.

If you want to be an officer in four years, then finish your degree first.
