What kind of a nuke are you talking about? Many of the warheads in current arsenal (there's always concern over stolen soviet gear) is powerful enough that there really wouldn't be much of a city left to declare martial law in..... picture a crater where NYC used to be...
More likely though, (and therefore of more concern) is the thought of a dirty bomb.... a relatively small explosive, but packed amongst a load of radioactive waste. When set off, it distributes radiation into the atmosphere, poisoning countless people. That sounds like the definition of chaos to me...
What's the point of this question.... "chaos or martial law"?? that assumes that martial law isn't chaos itself.... |

There are actually plans in place already for this that among other things would include martial law for that area. It is all classified so that should tell you that it would not be pretty. The Reserves was just authorized some increases in manning and some special units to be stood up in 2005 at several locations in the US whose primary function and mission will be to deal with such a catastrophic event. One of them is being stood up near my home and their warehouses and compound are under construction now with them to come on line in 2010. |

After we recovered from the attack, we would unleash the full power of the military, not the watered down version that we are allowed now. No one could stop us, we would obliterate the threat, not caring that pakistan might get its feelings hurt. It would be a bad day for the world, but if something like that happened, I would pretty much say goodbye to the middle east. |
