Based off Bush's past record and the Bush Doctrine, if Bush were in charge, I imagine we would have invaded Iran or Switzerland or some other completely unrelated country.

The pirates might have been fish food, but the captain probably would have been killed too.

Bush? We don't need Bush. We need Ronald Reagan. Talk about a guy who was nuts enough to push THE button... Just kidding. Not much different would be happening. The same FBI hostage team would be in place and the same thing would be going on. As far as the pirate problem in general, it was happening while Bush was in office. It did not start when Obama came into office. I think that he did not address the problem because he did not have the support of the American people. Everyone wants to claim that it was Bush's war in Iraq, but he had the support of a bunch of congressmen that for political sake all scream that it was wrong now. Like him or hate him, he at least stuck to his believes. I don't think it was the war that has killed his legacy (of course, having to admit that there just really doesn't seem to be any WMDs which is why we invaded and turning into deposing a dictator didn't look good) it was the lack of reaction to Katrina that drove the nail into his public support coffin. I love being a middle of the road guy, I am not a liberal, and I am not a conservative. I love how you have to make every decision on your political party, if something is clearly a duck, don't wait to see if the "other" party calls it a duck to see if you are going to call it a chicken just to disagree... I like to hang out in the middle and call it a bird.

As "tough" as some like to make out that he is/was, I would wager that he would be held in check by our ultra-liberal Congressional leaders. It's sad that the French have the balls to take these pirates head on and rescue their people, while we Americans sit back and choke.

If Bush were still in charge, they (the pirates) wouldn't be off the coast in Africa, they would be off the coast of Hawaii or something along those lines.

Bush in my opinion would have resolved the problem by now. I don't know what obama is going to do but I honestly don't have confidence in him I think Obama is going to pull a "Jimmy Carter" on this one. just my opinion.

Well, the French did that and wound up killing one of the hostages. I don't really think that's the kind of collateral damage most people approve of in situations like this.

Having said that, though, I agree with the first answerer who said that Bush would have used that as an excuse to invade, say, Venezuela or something by now, because they have oil and possibly weapons of mass destruction!

I really don't think he would have done much at all, he wasn't known for his quick responses to crises, ie. hurricane katrina and 911 to name a few. Plus it just doesn't fit into his agenda. I like how he is being made out to be this tough don't-take-crap-kinda guy when realistically hes a selfish f*cking coward in my book.
