What would you Choose Free Health Care or The Iraq war?

Experts now say for the price of the war in Iraq that everyone in the United States could have had free health care. What are your thoughts in this matter?

Remember how expensive it was when New York was terrorize. Remember all the people who lost their jobs and many that died. Our Govt. paid an extra years unemployment for thousands, It got New York back on it's feet with grants and other finances through FEMA.
If we let the terrorist just "be" and If we have to keep paying for the ruin terrorists leave behind, there will still be no health care. |

Congress is not saying...we'll take this healthcare money and spend it on Iraq.
Congress is spending like there's no tomorrow without consideration of cost.
To say there was any possibility of the taxpayers footing your medical bills if Iraq hadn't come along is nonsense. |

I think those people are stupid.
Example: when the cold war ended people talked about a "peace dividend" with that we would give everything to everybody. If people still think that kind of stuff they either do not know history, or are deluded. |

The military have told me I'm too old and useless to them, but I'd choose a war.
I am all in favor of universal health insurance, but that isn't the same as free health care. I've treated enough people for free already today, thank you very much, and I have bills to pay, too. I also don't have all the materials and "toys" I'd like to have for my practice, but I don't have the income for them. It ain't free to me. |

Recheck their math, Iraq war is way cheaper than universal health care.
I am from Canada and we have "free" health care.
I also pay twice a percentage of my income for provincial and federal taxes that an average American does. (around 47%)
I did not pay for my kids to be born, or to send one to see a pedeiatrician for a couple of specialist visits.
But I pay for all my kids dental costs, which frankly cost way more than regular doctors do. My perscriptions are paid through my employer insurance as these are not covered by government health care.
My sister had a serious condition that required immediate care and so she ended up at the MAYO clinic in Minneapolis to save her arm. In Canada you wait for months sometimes years to see a specialist.
The only reason Canada can afford even this level of health care is because we have almost no military budget to speak of. We can get away with this because no one would ever invade Canada because Americans would not allow it.
So I guess the reason we have health care, imperfect as it is, is because Americans are subsidizing our military expenditures and have been for decades.
Thank you America!
(Really, no sarcasm, thank you) |

First off, the war will eventually end, but free health care will lead to socialism eventually, or at least the confiscatory taxes that come along with socialism.
Secondly, what good is free health care going to do for you if we pull out and Al Qaida comes here and blows up a dirty bomb in your home town? The war should be the first priority.
Third, I have free health care already. I joined the Army and part of the thanks I get for my service is free health care. Gee, maybe I read a different history book than the one they use today, but this country wasn't founded on freebees. Now, we have cradle-to-grave government entitlements and we're in debt up to our necks. |

I'd like to see the math behind this. Do these "experts" include the total cost of the Iraq war in meaning specifically and only money that goes directly to the Iraqi econemy, or are they including much of what is general defense spending that happens to be being directed in Iraq right now? I mean, we could do away with the defense budget all together and give everyone free healthcare I'm sure, but then we have no Department of Defense.
P.S. Even if it is the former I'd rather just have a hefty tax break. Government ran anything doesn't work, socialize medicine and you'll see a complete breakdown in the quality of care. |

Gotta have more explosions!

Subsidized health care is great! I pay a little more in taxes every year, and in return I can go to the doctor any time I feel unwell, I get x-rays and CAT scans if I need them for whatever reason - and all I have to do is flash my Medicare card at them.
If you can divert money from a ridiculous money drain to health care, then you still pay the same amount of taxes - only that domestic life becomes at least a little bit easier. |

Godly Reality Check
 |
Free health care for how long? The Iraq war is a national debt so the money is not endless. We're in a nation where we claim everything down to acne as a epidemic. If we had national health care I would personally keep my insurance cause I'd rather go to a private hospital than have to deal with 2 month waiting periods at a public doctor office.
Malpractice insurance costs are on the rise and this is causing less people to join the surgical world. We're losing doctors. Making them government workers and most likely lowering their pay is not going to make more. Why would someone want to work their lives away for 10 years just so they can get a small paycheck just because US citizens don't want to pay a doctor bill. |

Hogwash!!
Hopefully, the Iraq War won't last very much longer. However, "free" health care will last for decade upon decade and cost the taxpayers trillions of dollars. And what the heck do you mean "free"? That's a laugh. Someone has to pay for it. The aforementioned taxpayers will be paying through the wazoo.
Here's a novel idea. How about if you get sick, YOU pay for it!!! |

I don't really have to add much, as everyone has pretty much pointed out the facts.
If you put a gun to my head and said hey dude answer me..... I'd say on strictly economic terms, I'd pay for the war, it will end up being far less expensive and much more effective than that, "free" health care..... |

Let's see one would save citizens of the country the other should never have been started in the 1st place.Health care makes sense in Canada and most of Europe,as opposed to war that only makes money for a few and kills many. |
