Goes to show how much this presidency cares about America. |

You have been mis-informed. They were told to leave and that they would be on their own but were so dependent upon the nanny state they didn't even know how to evacuate. The feds did more for NO than any other area in the country hit by a hurricane - EVER! |

Exactly how many were evecuated for katrina? And exactly how many chose to stay? Maybe the US did care and plenty were evacuated however you cannot force anyone to move if they don't want to. |

The governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans were told to evacuate the people but they ignored it until the last minute and even then many people refused to evacuate, so I'd blame the dumb people in New Orleans.
The US is not a totalitarian country where the government cannot easily force people to do things against their will.
Perhaps you'd rather live in China? |

What are you babbling about fool, it wasn't the US it was the idiot mayor and splittail governor. Both Dimocraps as I remember. Oh and for not caring, what the hell do you call spending 114 billion dollars so far on them is.
Ya hear that, it's the cluephone, for you. |

I would like to see a lot more information about what national resources China used. Anybody can order an evacuation. It is getting it done that causes the problem. |

China went in there and forced those people leave.
The US tells you that you should leave, provides a way to leave but leaves it up to you to actually do it.
If you like China so much please move there. |

Daunting task. Why did not the state and local authorities use those hundreds of buses they had available?...in New Orleans. |

Amusing... Not one of those who scream about the "government" and "Bush" being responsible for Katrina's problems seem to understand the Constitution and the LAW.
Here in the USA, the Federal government provides INFORMATION. Specific to Katrina, the NOAA and National Hurricane folks had advised Louisana and Mississippi to conduct evactuations... at that point is the responsibility of the STATE to DO the evactuations (and / or request Federal assistance). The LA Governor didn't order the evactuation... and the Mayor of NO didn't do it until too late !!
Interesting also... all the reading I could do quickly states that China evacuated 790 thousand... that's a MILLION fewer people that you state (without reference).
Nice thing about a Communist State... you can FORCE evactuation.
IMAGINE what would have happened if President BUSH have ORDERED New Orleans evactuated... sure, he would have saved LIVES... but then he'd be decried as a dictator. |

They were told to evacuate. You have to look at the leadership at the local level to see where the fault lies. Response to the flooding after wards could have been better but the Governor and Mayor both failed demonstrably in their responsibilities in pressing home and seeing to the evacuation of their largest BELOW SEA LEVEL city in the face of a major hurricane. |

The "Katrina Victims" brought it upon themselves, they were ordered to evacuate and provided with transportation. If they didn't evacuate, it's their fault, not the government's. |

Not quite right. I think the Mayor of Shanghai needs to pay a visit to New Orleans and show their incompetent mayor how it's done. The Mayor of New Orleans had over 450 transit buses at his disposal. Two were used to evacuate police families. The mayor himself went to San Antonio. The U.S. cared and cared deeply. Aid was ready to flow in in massive amounts, including military logistics and supply assistance. Unfortunately Governor Blanco up in Baton Rouge didn't send the required affidavit to the President asking for that assistance as an exemption to the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 until three days after Katrine made landfall in New Orleans. The mayors of the towns in Mississippi and the Governor of that state made preparations in time to carry out evacuations and reduce loss of life.
The levees which were breached by the storm were those constructed and maintained by the Orleans Parish Water and Sewage Board. Not by the Army Corps of Engineers. None of the levees on the river which were under the control of the Army Corps of Engineers suffered any breaching. That same Water and Sewage Board had received over $500 million in Federal funds over the previous five years to rebuild or reinforce those levees. No one can find out where the money went. Pick up a copy of "The Great Deluge". The author is an historian and a resident of New Orleans. |

Bush and his band of idiots had a full 3 day warning about Katrina, had 2 day request for help, and then waited 5 days to start aid after the storm passed.
If you're not rich and white in this country, you're as good as dead. |
