A year ago I was asking myself this too. Ive talked to lots and lots of marines and soldiers and the general consensus I got was that people in the army hate the army and people in the marines love the marines.
The army has been lowering their standards beyond reason. They take in pretty much anyone, the training is literally a joke and as a result there are a lot of unqualified individuals (not saying all soldiers are retarded, but there are a lot).
The Marines on the other hand have actually been raising the requirements so their standards are going up. What would you rather be seen as, something anyone could do, or be one of the few and proud?
As for benefits, the Army tends to give out more bonuses, but at the same time they have a lot more retarded crap to put up with.
The Marines wont give as many bonuses but as a whole its a lot more brotherly.
For equipment the army has the tendency to get all the new stuff, but they also have the tendency to buy unproven crap. For example the new uniforms, the ACUs dont blend into anything. The Marines tend to use the older stuff, but if its not broke why fix it?
If you want to talk just e-mail me, I can try to answer questions. |

Most of the idiots on here are going to say Marines before Army, mostly teenagers who play too much call of duty. They're both good and both physically demanding. |

Marine Bootcamp is SHORTER than Army Infantry training. 90% of their bootcamp has NOTHING to do with combat. If you want to learn how to march and look purty, join the USMC.
I will say that with SOI it makes their initial training longer, but still the combat training is the same since those 13wks WASNT combat related.
Most of your training will come from your unit. There isn't enough time to get to everyone in basic/osut/bootcamp.
Ex: We wont over headspace and timing/borelight zeroing/etc in osut, but i didn't actually learn how to do it until I got to my unit. I wasn't taught how to call for fire, level 1 infantry task, at Benning either, but my unit taught me that. Javeline? Unit.... The only thing i havent done in my unit that i did in benning was the Mk19.
Plus the Army deploys longer(2, sometimes 3x as long) which generally means Infantrymen in the Army get more combat experience than their Marine counterparts. |

Marines will say the Marine Corps, and soldiers will say the Army. They are both good at what they do. The benefits are the exact same in every branch of the service. But the basic Marine is better trained than the basic soldier. Marine Corps boot camp is much harder and longer. The Marines have higher standards of appearance than the Army and higher physical standards. |

As an Ex Army, of course people think I would say Army, but I will say this for you:
1st, Both can teach you how to be hardcore, if that is what you are looking for, because both have Special Units designed just for that purpose. Special Ops is a training style that exist in all branches of the Military, even the Air Force believe it or not. The Air Force has a very rigorous one 1 year training program for people who want to do Special Ops.
And of course, all branches offer good money for college, so the real question lies with what experiences do you want to get out of it.
Sometimes, the BEST experiences may come out of the Army or the Navy, because of the unlimited exposure you would encounter, BUT remember, at this time in your life, please remember WAR is going on, so you may not get what you want, because your first duty station will be based on where the need is, which is currently mostly in war zones, so think hard and be wise about your decision.
From experience, regardless of where they say your going, or what MOS they say your going to be assigned to, their is always a privilege left that they can assign you where they need you du eto the war efforts. |

Lets put it this way, Army Infantry is just as badass as USMC Infantry, we both do the same thing, and despite the rivalry between us to, the Army are our brothers in arms, and we will all die for them, as they will for us. Its kind of like a brother rivalry, we always fight for the title, but when s*** hits the fan, were both fighting side by side.
However, the USMC is without a doubt much more strict then the Army, and the training is longer.
Also, the enemy does not care what title is on your left breast, and a bullet will damage both USMC and Army |

Based on what you typed, there is no real difference.
You could say the Army has more benefits only because the Army has more enlistment bonuses. Other then that the benefits are the same.
One way you could look at it, do you like boats? If you do not like boats go Army.
People will try to say the Marines are more hardcore, but its about the same as if you went to a specialized unit in the Army, such as Airborne.
The Army has more variety in jobs if there is a specific job you want in the military. Depending on what job you want, the Army may be your only choice. |
