Whats the difference between The Army and The Marines?

1.Training
2.Money
3.Health benefits
4.Travel

gugliamo00
1.Training (Marines.. almost twice as long as Army)
2.Money (Same)
3.Health benefits (Same)
4.Travel (About the same.. Marines see more sea duty)

The answer to #1 should give you the difference.

If you're going in just for the benefits, and not to serve your country--or even if it's "a little of both", I'd suggest you go Army. The Marines want commitment.

the marines take only the toughest and bravest. the rest go to the army.

Ultimately- the marines "take cities, land, objectives" Army "holds cities, land, objectives". Of course there are many roles between the Army, Marines and all branches of service. Marines are inherently tougher through more rigorous training.
Both are tough with very demanding jobs... Benefits and pay are the same.

oldmarine08
One are Soldiers, then other are MARINES! Period!

USMC 68 Vietnam

Basic training in the Army is 8 wks long, the Marines is 14 wks long, and then you go on to AIT(advanced individual training)

Money is all the same, in all the branches it goes by pay grade,(E1 to E9 enlisted and O1 to O9 for officers)

all health benefits are the same

Chances are you will be sent to Iraq or Afganastan either way, it all depends on your MOS (your millitary job, anything starting with B Bravo is combat, 11 bravo is infantry or atleasit was when I was in). 88M or mike is a truck driver, and so on.

If you are looking for a job and benefits join the Army, if you want to be part of a special brotherhood/sisterhood join the Marines. You should feel a special calling to be a Marine.

that was cold hearted dude.. but training... army pretty much trains to seize and hold objectives.. pretty much what we're doin in Iraq, just occupying the country until things settle down.. marines, just go in and um...stop things from happening... if it's a known fact that there's bad guys and only bad guys and they have to be stopped by any means, then the marines would be a prime choice.. if there's a mix of civilians and bad guys, and some bad guys may, (and i use MAY loosely) want to surrender, then it would be the army cause that's what they train for.. money and health benefits are and should be the same for both, we both have the same pay scale, and we both have tri care which is like a military type of blue cross, blue shield.. the travel.. the army flies with the AirForce.. the Marines ride with the Navy.. army calls for air support they'll get army helicopters, call for precision air strikes from fast movers.. the AirForce drops a 500lb bomb... marines call for air support they get their cobras attack choppers, marines call for a precision air strike they'll get a Navy F4 Phantom or something.

Although the main purpose of both services is quite the same as(combat troops), the difference between the Army and Marines are as follows... The Army is permanently station to some countries like Germany , Korea,Saudi Arabia,Kuwait and other parts of the world...Iraq and Afghanistan are not considered permanent duty station, however we will stay there as long as it needs be, or until our government decides for us to leave... The Army as we all know since the rebirth of this nation is the Main Combat Element of our Armed Forces and can be deployed by land, and air using (Airborne, by helicopters "Air cavalry", Armored tanks,Cavalry/Infantry fighting vehicles..Without the Army, we will never sustain or win a war...Where ever the Army goes, the support from the Air force also goes with it..........On the other hand, the Marines also performed combat operation like the Army, except that they uses amphibious assault vehicles, tanks (but not as big as the Army) during war operations...Marines operates under the Navy... By the way, I am retired from the Army, and my brother was retired from the Marines...Telling someone that the "Marines is tougher then the Army is a misconception", because I can out run my brother at any time, any place, anywhere and """HE SIMPLY KNOWS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT"" I am a long distance runner, athletically fits, and he is not!!!!! So to answer this issue fairly, I have to say that each service has their own AVERAGE, TOP NOTCH and you can name the rest......

Basic training is more inclusive in the Marine Corps compared to Army basic training. However, the special forces cross train in all areas across the services. The pay scale is the same from service to service. But it is easier to get promoted in the army. Health benefits are the same across the board. The Marines usually have a Navy corpsman attatched to each company though. Travel? Laughing!!! All military members do some traveling. Some more than others. Marines can be sent anywhere at anytime without the consent of congress. This is why the Marines are "the first to fight", because they are already there. All the services have a general dislike for the other services, but when push comes to shove, they get the job done and have each others backs.

Popeye420
ARMY- Ain't Ready To Be Marines Yet
USMC- Uncle Sams Misguided Children

Really though, the Marine Corps is trained be an amphibious force. To attack target from land, sea, and air. The Army is trained to occupy and hold objectives.

The training is a bit more rigorous in the Marine Corps than the Army. Longer, more difficult, and strengient. The Army is a bit more laid back in most cases unless you are with a specific unit. All in all I am sure the training equals out. Well maybe not.

Money is the same as with benifits. Military is military and have the same benifits. Though I know some signing bonuses are a bit better in the Army. It gets more funding from the gov't because of it's size.

1. Well Marines training is hard the Marines are known for that I mean they have Paris Island. With the Army there training is more relaxed for the most part it all depends on witch base you train at Fort Benning is there hard core base. It is also where they train there Officers for the army. They also have some type of training there that Marines go to as well.
2. Money pretty much all military has the same pay scale you can look it up on line just yahoo military pay charts.
3. Health Benefits is also very similar I believe it all provided by tristar.
4. Travel well the Army is the biggest out of all the military branches so then have more bases to travel to. Marines is I believe the smallest branch they still have many bases at various location.

warchild125
marines go to army bases to train because we dont waste money on building schools when we can just kick the army to the side of the room and do it better. lol. The corps specialized in combat. the army is more of a support, resupply , and gaurd organization. The corps is trained to go in, find , and close with the enemy then show them the door to the after life.

The Marines have better PR (I do love their commercials). A lot of Marines go to Army training schools because they don't know how to train themselves.

getusumtx
Well......The basic training is alittle longer in the Marines,As far as advance training, the Marines and Army share alot of schools so thats the same.
Money,The military works of the Same basic pay scale. No one branch gets paid more than any other as far as base pay is concerned. Some services have have different alloments, and housing amounts are different depending on where you are stationed.
Health Benefits are the same
Travel.....Marines and the Army travel about the same. A main difference i find is that Marines only deploy for 6 months at a time to iraq, and the Army deploys for 12-15 months at a time.

I look at it like this.

Everybody in the Marines is infantry.

Not everybody in the Army is infantry.
but that doesnt mean they cant still shoot a rifle.

The training is harder 4 the marines. The marines usually get more money. I don't know health benifits. They both might travel the same amount. It probably depends on what your job is.

MARINES
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States military responsible for providing power projection from the sea,[1] using the mobility of the U.S. Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. While administratively under the Department of the Navy,[2][3] the U.S. Marine Corps is a separate branch of the military, often working closely with US Naval forces for training, transportation, and logistic purposes.

Originally organized as the Continental Marines on November 10, 1775 as naval infantry, the Marine Corps has evolved in its mission with changing military doctrine and American foreign policy. The Marine Corps has served in every American armed conflict including the Revolutionary War. It attained prominence in the 20th century when its theories and practice of amphibious warfare proved prescient and ultimately formed the cornerstone of the Pacific campaign of World War II.[4] By the mid 20th century, the Marine Corps had become the dominant theorist of amphibious warfare.[5][6][7] Its ability to respond rapidly to regional crises has made it, and continues to make it, an important body in the implementation and execution of American foreign policy.[8]

The United States Marine Corps, with 186,300 active duty and 40,000 reserve Marines as of November 30, 2007,[9] is the smallest of the United States' armed forces in the Department of Defense (the Coast Guard, about one fifth the size of the Marine Corps, is under the Department of Homeland Security). The Corps is nonetheless larger than the entire armed forces of many significant military powers; for example, it is larger than the active duty Israel Defense Forces.

ARMY
The United States Army is the largest and oldest branch of the armed forces of the United States. Like all armies, it has the primary responsibility for land-based military operations.

The modern Army had its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on June 14, 1775, before the establishment of the United States, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War. Congress created the United States Army on June 3, 1784 after the end of the war to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The Army considers itself to be descended from the Continental Army, and thus dates its inception from the origins of that force.[1]

Control and operation of the Army is administered by the Department of the Army, one of the three service departments of the Department of Defense. The civilian head is the Secretary of the Army and the highest ranking military officer in the department is the Chief of Staff. As of August 31, 2007, the Regular Army reported a strength of 519,471 soldiers.[2] By the end of 2006, the Army National Guard (ARNG) reported 346,288 and the United States Army Reserve (USAR) reported 189,975, putting the approximate combined component strength total at 1,055,734
