Whats the point of the war in afganastan?

so i recently got into a fight with my friend whose in the canadian forces, hes going to afganastan soon and I expressed how I feel that he will be fighting in a war that cannot be won. I told him that the government should pull the troups and concentrate more on our economy rather then the economy we are currently destroying. I told him I respect the troops but the reason i didn't join the cause was because i didn't believe in it. I just don't get what the point of the war in the east is for other then greed and trying to push our beliefs and ways on a society that wants to reject them someone please enlighten me?

Afghanistan is still a major power of forces that we know promote terrorism. There are also issues with that country about their brutal treatment of women. I think it has something to do with the geniva convention... So I think that by pushing a belief of equal treatment for women, we are doing the right thing even if they don't like it.

Also, your friend should not have joined the military if he didn't want to fight. I'm sorry that he did. I hope this answered your question.

well i don't want to see another 9/11 either. it's like a fight on the playground. guy punches you in the mouth you gonna punch back or he's gonna come after after you even more because he knows you don't have the cojones to fight back.

You've obviously never had a family member or anybody really close fighting over there. My cousin has been to Iraq once and is currently deployed to Afghanistan and my husband is also currently deployed. The stories my cousin told me were touching. He said it is so sad to see the children suffering from people who have have so much control over them. They are so happy to have American troops fighting not just for America, but for them as well. I have this motto: "Whether you believe in the war or not, support our troops! If you cant, feel free to stand in front of them".
And we are at war with Afghanistan because we did not finish the job against al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Whether you'd like to agree or not, we do get things done over there an we will get the job done. They are over there trying to get Al Qaeda so another 9/11 doesn't happen here. That was a horrible day!

And yes, our economy may be "bad", but really its not that bad. We should be thankful for the things we have. Other countries have it worse.

You don't have to express your political opinions all of the time. Your friend has committed to this war, and he probably can't undo it at this point. When you are in the military, you are wise to jump on the bandwagon. You have to fight the war, so you might as well have faith in the cause.

The troops are specifically over there to protect our economy,.. There was no other reason to go. There were no WMDs. There were no terrorists attacking the USA. What the countries in the middle east tried to do was trade in oil in currency other than US currency.

If you are not aware of it, all trade in oil is done in US dollars. If any country was allowed to use another currency, America would be flooded with countries returning their US dollars and our economy would crumble.

We are in the Middle East, protecting our economy. That is the only threat.
