When can i go meet my husband once he is at his duty station?

I was wondering,My husband just made it to His AIT...And i was just curious on how long me and my son would have to wait to go and meet him once he makes it to his Duty Station after AIT? He plans on signing up for base housing once he finds out where is duty station will be.

He will get some time to come home after AIT. When he gets his PCS orders they will have a report date. That is when he must be there. Some people go early to find housing and such, especially if there is a waiting list for base housing. You will go with him on his report date at the latest. The military will set up you move and move you if you choose.

Depending on the duty station, there might be a long wait for the housing list. I know at Ft Hood, they didn't give you priority on the housing list unless you were coming from an overseas assignment and waiting could take as long as 18-24 months! With the rate of deployment from that area, the wait isn't as long now...maybe 3-6 months. That's just an example...

When he gets his orders, he'll be allowed to go on leave. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE....before your husband takes PCS leave from AIT, have him look on his LES to see how many days he has earned. I've seen Soldiers take 30 days of leave between duty stations (or take leave from the day they graduate until their report date) and they end up "going in the hole." Basically what that means is that they tap into leave days they have yet to earn. (Their Drill Sergeants don't explain this to them) Each month, a Soldier earns 2.5 days of leave. I'm telling you this because emergencies happen and if he doesn't have the days to take leave, then he might be able to take leave.

Also, since he has dependents, make sure that he asks about Permissive TDY since he has dependents. You can use this time (10 days) to look for a place to live off post and it doesn't count against his leave days. Once he finds out where he's going, you can start internet searches for places to live. Google "BAH query 2009" once he finds out the ZIP code so you both have an idea of how much BAH you will be getting and how much you can afford for rent, utilities, etc. Also, most installations provide a local listing of rentals in the immediate area. You can also do a Google to find the installation's home page.

Not to be discouraging but, some Posts don't have housing for the lower enlisted personnel. YOU might have to rent off-post.
and if he is in an area with a high cost of living, like the Washington D.C. area, you might have to stay put in your hometown.
