When can you take leave when you are deploy?

I will be deploying in a few months to Iraq and want to know how often I can take leave. I am a female with two small children and will like to take leave as much as I can so my baby won't forget who her mother is. Also how does that work, taking leave from Iraq to come to the US. I have not been deploy, first time....

When you can take leave varies based on your position and what the unit needs are in country - some get to take leave right away and others near the end. Take it when you can get it - you get two weeks at home (travel time is not counted). I have four kids and trust me they won't forget you (been deployed three times). There is internet access in Iraq and you can use a wide variety of programs to keep in touch and see each other over the web.

you will get a 2week r&r while deployed if your deployment is 15 months plus you will get a 18 day leave. your leave doesn't count until you sign-in state side and will end when you sign-out state side. so you will get the full 14 days at home travel time doesn't count against you. you might want to record some books on type for your kiddos as well as some videos. don't worry your kids won't forget you. my son was 10 months when his daddy left for a 18 month deployment and still remembered him the whole time while he was away. my daughter who was born right before he made it home for leave remember who he was 9 months later.

You are unable to take leave in Iraq. I understand your position but you will be allowed to take leave prior and after your deployment if it's less then a yr. Unless you receive a "Red-Cross" Msg saying someone in your immediate family has passed away, you will not be able to come back to the US. Good luck.

What branch are you in and how long are you deploying for?

My husband is in the USMC and when they deploy for 7 months they don't get any leave during the deployment. I have a friend whose husband is also a Marine but is on a 12 month deployment and he is getting a couple of weeks of leave.

You can take it whenever you want, you will only get two weeks. You are not allowed to take multiple leaves while deployed. Your leave packet also has to be approved by your chain of command.
Taking leave from Iraq to the US.... It takes a few days to get from Iraq to the states... they fly you into like 2 different countries and then 2 states then finally you are home... you are charged for those days also.
Hope this helps

to my knowledge pre deployment leave is based on how many days of leave you have accumulated and you are told when you can take it. you can go onto the mil website and check how many days leave and if it has been approved....
