I didn't agree with going into Iraq but, now that we are there we do have to stay until the job is done. I am starting to believe we have done all that we can. I think it is time to begin a phased withdrawl.
You will see how quickly the Iraqis can take care of themselves when they have to. You have to consider that the Iraqi government will play by different rules once we leave too. They will take off the kid gloves and do the things we wont do for political reasons. |

Immediately. The fact is that whether we leave tomorrow or in 50 years, within 1 year of our leaving there will be a totalitarian Islamic regime running Iraq just like there is in Iran. It astounds me that some people think we can undo thousands of years of cultural programming over there by dropping some bombs and waving Old Glory around for five years. |

Past due. We opened the door for internal power struggle in Iraq and now it has to play out. There are tensions in the region that have existed since before the forming of our nation. Nothing we can accomplish militarily outside of sheer genocide will change that. The Iraqi people will do what they wish to do with Iraq. |

When the Iraqi's are capable of defending themselves and not before.
Otherwise ,you turn it and it's oil over to Iran. |

There's a whopper!
The right time is never, or at least not until the streets are safe for children.
The real time will be when we lose interest as a nation, which looks to be by the end of the decade.
And it won't be a rapid "pullout". It took years from signing the deal to pulling the last man from Saigon.
Here's the strongest supporting fact for me so far:
Since the Marines landed in Baghdad, there have been 80 newspapers founded, 15 new radio stations began broadcasting and 3 TV stations went live on the air.
You tell me if our plan works. |

I wish Prsident Bush answered this (& got two points!).
I reckon the president won't pull out if he can help it. |

When we let our boys do what they were trained to do break things and kill them all. Then we will have won, once that time comes we will leave.
Unless you want them following us here. |

When they show they are not willing to do their part of stabilizing their own country. Benchmarks are in place. Let's see if they work. |

WHAT? And leave all that oil? Surely you jest. Well on the other hand, first the French, and then SEATO, abandoned Michelin's rubber plantations in Vietnam. The Cong took care of many collaborators, the ones escaping came to Los Angeles and St Paul Minnesota (Hmong).
Which, thinking on it, kind of makes true the scream from the neo-cons -- "They'll follow us home." What they don't say it is it will be our own gang of thugs that'll follow us home, not the Iraqi nationalists. Test the truth of this and get out NOW! Never fear. |

Firstly, since our enemy is there, we stay until they are gone (by that I mean dead).
Second, we stay until the Iraqis can stand on their own without the fear of terrorist influence. |
