If you are in the ceremony, they will practice it and you'll know. If you are in civilian clothes in the crowd, don't. If you are in uniform and in the crowd, when you hear:
"Honor Guard, attention! Present Arms!"
or. . . when they play taps.
or when you walk by to pay your last respect to the casket before they lower it into the ground. (That's my choice.) |

If you are in uniform you salute when they play taps. If you all file past the coffin you should come to attention at the coffin and salute it as a last tribute. Ifyou are part of the honor guard they will teach you what to do before you get to do it. |

At the playing of TAPS, or any time the order to 'Present Arms' is given. This assumes you are also in uniform. |

When the bugler starts playing Taps. It is not necessary to salute anywhere else during the ceremony unless you are participating in it. |
