Persian Gulf War was the last doubtless win.
Usually when America wins a war, it consists of them going up against a third world country, kicking over their playground sand castle and laughing abut it.
One might consider Afghanistan or Iraq, but the invasions and occupations tend to be considered part of the same wars. |

Tut Tut, they are our allies and must be respected. They are winning one with the Britt's as we write. God Bless America, The UK and Long Live The Queen |

A shooting war the US won? Gulf War I. We achieved all the goals we set out for. Though we could have done a better job, we accomplished the goal, and we were appreciated for it.
The last time we actually won a war, complete and final, was World War Two.
There's been many minor conflicts and the Cold War that the US has come out on top in, but those are the two wars that we won. Korea wasa sort-of draw, and Vietnam was... well, that's for another time.
Arguably, we've won in Afghanistan as well, which is in a much better position than Iraq at the moment... |

Last War Declared was WW2 & we won the rest were conflicts |

They've won a few, I dare say...
However, now they've started waging war on vague concepts rather than actual nations, their track record may fall.
After 'Terror', they're doing 'Ghosts', 'Strange Lingering Smells', and 'Weak Patches In Toilet Roll That Your Finger Pokes Through'. |

Oh they've won a few. Normally against countries small enough to not be able to argue to much.
I love it when people think of Vietnam as a victory. It's funny.
When the US pulled out the entire country was left to the North Vietnamese and as a result became a Communist country.
In what way is that a victory for the US? The stated aim of the Vietnam War was to prevent the spread of Communism. The US failed in it's primary aim, and as such it lost the war. Sure you didn't surrender, but you still lost.
Oh, and no one counts dead bodies as a winning margin when they tally up who won, otherwise you'd have us all believing that Russia was on the losing side in WW2. |

this question is posed as if America came second every time it gets into a conflict which as we all know just is not true, its not as if the british army is any better either, yes we may have ended a few but always with help from somewhere and 9 times out of 10 its been the star spangled banner thats appeared over the horizen, could britain have ended the 2nd ww without help from america?no would be the answer to that, america is guided by politicians just as we are and at the end of theday if america appears to fail then look no further then the spineless ones in congress as they are the failues not the american soldier, point in case,vietnam,58,000 american dead, million and a half vietcong dead,id call that winning |

The americans only win wars when the brits are at there side, without the brits the american military are nothing.
WW1 - America won (Britain)
WW2 - America won (Britain)
Vietnam - America lost (No Britain)
Gulf War - America won (Britain)
Afgan - America winning (Britain)
Iraq - America won initial battle (Britain)
I have proved my point. Britains military do all the work and lose most of their men to AMERICAN friendly fire!!!! |

The cold war technically ended on the 19th of November 1990, with the signing of the EML (or whatever) treaty. Nobody actually won that war, it was just decided that capitalism was better served by its ending. America has never won a war by itself, but, like the the other contributor states; they've certainly started enough.
They usually need a European country to help them out when they start a war somewhere. |

- 1989: cold war
- 1991: 1st gulf war
- 1999: war against serbia
- 2001: war in afghanstan, they did win the war, even they are losing the "after-war"
- 2003: war in iraq, as in afghanistan... |

The Cold War! The only other War that the United States has been in is Desert Storm and The War On Terror! We havent finished the War on Terror yet and the Iraq war is a continuance of the Desert Storm! We won that war, by capturing Saddam!
Reguardless of how many wars the United States has won or lost, doesn't mean a thing! We are still the Greatest Country on the face of the planet! |

Well, the Vietnam War was the only war that the USA lost. So the US would have won the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican American Civil War, Spanish American World War I, World War II, Korean War, and Desert Storm. |

You can't claim the 'first' Gulf War because you are still fighting it - Bush's argument for the recent invasion was that Iraq had violated the conditions of the 'ceasefire' so technically that means it's the same war. And I don't how you can claim to be winning in Afghanistan because you've been there 6 years and Osama is still sending you video valentines. The Russians arguably won WW2 at Stalingrad. That was the big turning point in that conflict. |
