You do know that over 40,000 people are killed needlessly by cars in the U.S. each year don't you? I think if you are trying to save lives, you should start by banning cars. Car ownership is not protected by the Constitution, gun ownership is!

If guns are outlawed, only criminals would have guns.. think about that.. Had a law abiding citizen at New Life Church not had a gun, the idiot that shot the place up would have killed alot more people than he did. I carry everywhere with me. If guns kill people then so do baseball bats, tire irons, and knives.. lets ban them too..

I was raised with guns in the house. My children were raised with guns in the house. We have not gone out and committed crimes...with or with out guns.
It is not the gun... it is the moron holding the gun that you have to worry about.

When it is illegal for citizens to own guns, only criminals will have them. I bet you will feel real safe then.

In countries where guns have been banned, crime has gone way up. Why?? Because the robbers KNOW that there are no guns in the house, the poor folks have no way to protect themselves.

If you want to know what life would be like in an unarmed America just ask some of our immigrants what life was like in there home countries where only there rulers had guns. Make no mistake, if Americans were all disarmed we would have rulers & no rights in just a few short years, & those that disagreed would be imprisoned or murdered along with there famlies.
Think it wouldn't happen, just do some research & find out.

You know, first off there is the old cliche, "Guns don't kill people, people do" but sadly it is true, do you honestly believe that if they could not get a gun that they would not make a pipe bomb or some other destructive device designed to kill people?

Now do a little research, look at the Cities and States that have hardened or lessened gun laws and LOOK at the statistics concerning violent (aka Gun Crimes) crime. Virtually every city that has in-acted strict gun laws has seen an increase of gun crime and every city/state that has relaxed gun laws has seen a decrease in violent (gun) crimes.

Washington DC that has the stiffest gun laws in the USA, has one of the highest gun crime rates of the country, yet Florida has one of the lowest (Florida relaxed its gun laws about 15 years ago and much to the chagrin of the anti-gun people crime went down, not up)

America will never ban guns becuase for one its in our bill of rights, second if you ban guns, the only people that dont get guns are the good people. Bad people still find guns & use them becuase they dont care cause their the bad guy wh breaks the law. Look at britian, they ban guns & they still have gun violence & if you say not as much as the US thats true, but the US is also a hell of lot bigger & has a lot more people. Lets put it this way, the day the US government bans guns is the day the people who own the guns revolt against the government to tell them NO!

I'll take the occassional whacko shooting any day, then systemized mass murder. Look at what happens in too many places around the world where people are prohibited from defending themselves. Darfur, Rwanda, Bosnia. There are many more if I wish to go back further in history.

Read these facts and I dare you to try to challenge even one of them.

Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals over 2.4 million times every year -- or 6,575 times a day. This means that each year, firearms are used 60 times MORE OFTEN to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives. - National Safety Council

According to the CDC, the total number of gun deaths by homicide, suicide and accidents in 2004 was around 29,000. Now, keep in mind that the gun was only the means of violence. In 2004 there were only 1,100 accidental deaths from guns in the US, meaning that if guns were not a factor, there would still be arond 27,000 violence-related deaths and suicides which occured by using other means.

No one was ever killed by a gun. A gun is a tool utilized by a person who can think and make decisions. It is an inanimate object, like a car, a knife, or an axe, which all are also used as a means commit crime.

Logically, you would have to outlaw cars before you can outlaw guns, because they are responsible for way many more deaths than a gun.

I mean, the government has an obligation to protect citizens from criminals, but how good of a job do they actually do? I agree with background checks, but most of the other laws that are on the books do nothing to stop crime.

Example: The assult weapon ban of 1994. Made guns illegal that held more than so many rounds, made collapsable stocks illegal, made bayonet lugs illegal... Tell me how any of those stipulations prevented crime. Even with the law, those items could still be bought from private people and on the black market. All it did was prevented an honest person from buying such guns - like my AR-15 has all of those feature, but it is no more prone to cause crime than a hunting rifle that was never illegal.

Now, lets look at this logically NOT IDEALISTICALLY. If more people began concealing and carrying weapons legally (in most states you have to apply for a license and take a class) do you honestly think a criminal would feel as free to commit a violent crime knowing that there is a good chance that his victim has the means to protect themselves? Yes, crime would still occur, BUT it has been proven in states such as Florida, Texas, and West Virginia that the greater the percentage of people who have concealled weapons permits is complemented by a lower percentage of violent crime.

If a man were to break into your home in the middle of the night, and you did not know if he was armed or not, would you rather have a cell phone, a baseball bat, or a gun?

Virginia Tech is a prime example of how gun laws fail. The university strictly enforced a no weapon policy on its premeses. Consequently, the honest students were not armed, even if they were licensed, it still was not permited. One criminal broke the rules with a gun he bought illegally and slaughtered 32 students. Had any one of those students or witnesses been armed, they would have been able to neutralize the threat and saved at least some lives.

Japan: Guns have been completely banned for many year. Last month, the mayor of Nagasaki was shot by a gang member. The honest people gave their guns up, but the gangs still have them.

20% of U.S. Violent Crime occurs in 4 cities: New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., & Detroit. These cities have near prohibition laws regarding handgun ownership.

1976- Washington, D.C. enacted one of the most restrictive gun control laws in the nation. Effect: Murder has risen 134%while the national murder rate has dropped 2%

New York City - Up 15% between 1998 and 1999. The SAME timeframe that new handgun restrictions came into effect.

In 1986, Florida Adopted the Right-To-Carry law, allowing citizens to carry firearms. The results from 1987-1996:

Homicide by Firearm: DECREASED 37%
Homicide by Handgun: DECREASED 41%

93% of Police officers believe law-abiding citizens should be able to purchase a firearm for self-defense or sport.

When Congress ammends the Constitution. That would almost be impossible to pass. You won't see it in our lifetime.

There may be other freedoms that you would like to ban. You should try reading it first.

Those stupid statistics about being more likely to be shot with our own guns are wrong, wrong, wrong. Go look up the study and read it. Funny how no one cites statistics about people NOT being raped or killed because they had the means to defend themselves.

Here's a perspective you don't see every day: The second amendment is a feminist issue. It is the only way we can defend ourselves against evil men, who are physically stronger than we are.

When the Constitution is amended to allow the gov't to do so legally, or when a sufficient amount of judicial decisions make the 2nd amendment a farce.

The first isn't likely, as most citizens don't trust the gov't enough to disarm.
The second is far more likely.
