This was on the General studies A level paper today if your interested. Thank god I only do one forced lesson a week. Anyway......
A nuclear war is fairly likely depending on how you look at it. Top countries use the weapons as second level arms. This means they are only for defence and not used for a first strike. If every county uses this then no one will engage in nuclear war. However political tension is pretty high and political trust is fairly low at the moment. Just look at the Korean crisis at the moment. With all the current alliances, it is fairly likely that war could break out if one country attacks another. However, if governments do what is best for their people, then they may not commit to their alliances they have made in the hope they will not be engaged in the war.
