it embarrasses my husband when people thank him.. we've had people follow us around wal mart giving bible quotes.. i think it's wonderful that there is still that kind of patriotism in our country..
he still likes it though. :)

i always try to say thanks if i answer a question from a soldier on here.. and as far as the ones around me, i've had quite a few single soldiers over for dinner, or crashed on my couch. they know my home is open to them always..

as far as the negative comments... you know what they say, if you don't want to stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

Yes, I do. My fiance is going to enter the service this June. Several of my uncles are in the Air Force. I thank them for what they did.

Hopefully our job system will thank him by helping him to find a civilian job now.

No cause im too shy but I always smile really wide and hold the door open for them or whatever. I thank them on the inside...lol

Yes, I try.
I try to do it for firefighters too, as well as police officers. Because unlike military or FF, almost everybody either hates and disrespects or dislikes police officers (let's not lie, most people respect the military even if they hate them), so I think it's important to show police that I think they are heroes too.
Yes, they do deserve better than that. Any person that fights in the place of another for his freedom deserves the highest honor and respect.

Many stand behind the flag. Few stand beside. Heroes stand in front.

a lot of us dont like people going out of their way to thank us or shake our hand or wahtever. especially in airports. the term "silence is golden" definately applies. chances are, if we're traveling in uniform, its because for some reason we have to, not because we want to.

personally, i dont like it because of how most people word it. "thank you for protecting my rights" or whatever. what each soldier does over there isnt for people that he doesnt know back home: its for the people he's fighting with. that and honestly if i feel like talking about my service, I'LL bring it up.

dont as much as i should. But they defiantly do deserve EVERYONES respect no matter what country.

I try to mention that I appreciate them. And I'll try to make up excuses to buy a round of drinks -- "You guys were Wild Boars! I was 2-30 back in the day! Beer for everybody!" But outright thanks, not really.

The few times anyone actually thanked me, I felt pretty uncomfortable. Others have done so much more than I did, given up more than I did. It just didn't feel right.

The worst was my own father when I came back from Desert Storm, telling me 'thanks'. I didn't know what to say, but I wanted to say something like:

"You fought up and down Korea for 15 months,
bounced in and out of Vietnam in the 50s, 60s
and 70s...what the hell are you thanking me for? All I
did was help stress test some good weapons systems
on unprepared Iraqis."

But I didn't, all I did was smile uncomfortably.

sigh, im gonna be honest here and say that i dont always do it. Most of the time i do but when im in a rush (airport is where i usually see them) or im just in no mood to strike a conversation. I do fully appreciate them though.

because most soldier's that have served in a war have lots a lot of god friends and we thank the true hero's are the ones that died on the battle filled and were just doing are job and it`s becuse of the man and woman next to you.

No, actually I see if they are presenting themselves in a military manner and their uniform is correct...

I really don't want people thanking me and I don't go out of my way to thank them...

No I do not. I am entering the military myself. Besides alot of people in my family are in the Armed Forces.

No, you never know a person for who they are by just looking at them, Many soliders have good intensions and are good giving people, but many are also racist against cultures and stereotype people, we had a couple soliders come to our school and say "yeah most of us are just here because we like helping and also we like killing things"
